***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

I'm thinking of getting this. I didn't really get into Civ 6 but I played earlier Civ games.

Looking at CDKeys it seems a bit expensive but given the replayability of Civ games it isn't too bad.

Seriously my pence per hour played on civ games is pure value for money.

If you were to draw a pie chart of my life time spent on civ would probably be distributed
Yeah the pence per hour played for the Civ series is impressive for me. That's why I'm not too squeamish of paying a decent amount up front. I'm still playing Civ6 and enjoying it, it's great on my laptop when travelling for work to unwind in the hotel.

I'll 100% buy this but I'm not enthused about some of the design decisions, such as switching Civs for each era. Only including our current age as a future expansion really smacks of a cashgrab as well. Leaders and Civs as DLC is one thing, but an expansion for an era that has been in all previous versions, and that we are actually livining in, seems a bit extreme.

So why not wait, and get the "complete" game when all the DLC has been released ? You'll probably get it for a lot cheaper too.

Hmm, you want a complete game for all that money? Sorry but they've gotta hold half of it back to rinse us later.

5 only really got good with the expansions, I can't really comment on 6 as I just didn't enjoy the base game enough to keep going. I am still half tempted with this, but not enough to risk a preorder.

This is the way with civ games, especially as what you get at the start is never the best experience. It's always a major DLC in or two that actually makes the game worthwhile.

Edit: not saying they aren't enjoyable on release but from experience the major DLCs improved it so much that I would rather just wait to get it all together and cheap.

Can't say I agree that Civ games need expansions to be good. Civ V was great from launch, it just got better as it was patched and expansions were added. YMMV.
That's not how I remember it. Civ 5 and 6 was barely average at launch and didn't get better till a fair few expansions and patches. Although I still think Civ 6 is the worst of all the Civ games due to the terrible AI.

I found Civ 5 deeply boring at launch so many turns of just hitting return with nothing happening. Civ 6 with its very new mechanisms was much more playable form launch. I agree each add on expanded the game and I couldn't go back now but Civ 5 only became fun for me once the add ons were released.

I struggle to even think of playing 5 without economic and religious expansions.
Weird now thinking back.

I bought a deluxe civ6 so tbh im not sure what was free and what was dlc.
Im not fond of Apocalypse mode, pirates, zombies etc. its all crap tbh.

In some ways this feels like a return to civs roots producing influence and being able to split it up between science/economy/culture decisions.

I am still extremely dubious about 7.
The same was I was about beyond earth on release, but it did get better.

Still 6 will exist and for all it's flaws it's still probably my fav, or maybe even 3.... Weird choice I know.

4 I'll never forget watching 64 stacks of units headbutting fortified mech infantry for ages.
