***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

Watched a bit last night. Really like the art style but don't like how they've compartmentalized the ages, especially when I saw the tech tree.

Do we have a VR thread/section on the forum? Its always been something Ive been passivly interested in and I know its gotten cheaper and a lot better in the past 5 years.

Got to admit I love my VR though not sure about the idea of playing something like Civ in VR

Bought the founders edition on cdkeys this morning and playing now. Quite enjoying it but the screen tearing on scrolling is annoying. Also - no auto explore for units?

ine one of the other games there was an unlock in the tech tree for it?

dx12 is better than vulkan for high enn hardware? I take it?

wow even on the extra small font size @ 4k the text is like its designed for couch gamers

who designed the UI? this is extra small text apparently

why cant this be a 1920x1080 window that opens in the centre of the screen? EXTRA SMALL TEXT APPARENTLY

lol

LENSES.... why not just call them filters?
also I'm sure I just saw "tiles are unrevealed" instead of hidden by "the fog of war"

made my mobile gamers? that would explain the chonking UI and word choices...

that minimap looks like a disgusting placeholder, I could knock up a better looking border for it in MS paint

The actual tile graphics look pretty pleasant

Turn off 'Enable High Resolution UI Scaling' in Options, Accessibility and play with the font scale to get it to your liking.

wow so much better, the screen instantly feels bigger.

Games seems the usual civ imo
Turns are really fast so far on a 12700k.
UI is meh but everything else seems fine.

hopefully the UI is easily modded and someone makes a better more clean yet detailed version

During the last age I had every civ at war with me. This is certainly a new dynamic in the game. I think as I was leading they ganged up on my civ.

Just finished our first/last game and neither of us knew why we won and why we lost?

Economic victory for me was to buildworld bank in cities.
She had a military victory but didnt build Manhattan or operation ivy and the game ended and she won?

lol

and theres no replay or high score board to know what happened...

yeah,,, gonna load last saved game

game ended on time? and she had 19 i had 17 ... no explanation.

a turn victory i guess. would be nice to know? lol

Ranking up points for your leader... lool oh god....

That was very unsatisfying.

so just finished the weekend playing, and yes when play, time flew in, and yes i was suffering from "one more turn" while playing it, but now that i've stop, i'm not raving to start a new game, im not sitting here working out what i do next game, in fact i'm not thinking about the game at all, which is not looking good for me to put the mega hours i put into civ 5/6

This is definitely a very different Civ launch to previous instalments.

Previous iterations have certainly had their issues at launch that were either fully or partially resolved with expansions and patches but from the reviews/reception so far this is a pass for me in its current state and unlike previous games I won't be going along with the journey from the base game to its 'final' state. Best have a look in a while and see whether the developers have managed to wrangle it into a better condition.

the ages are annoying if you change towns to cities they became towns again....
also you lose your army.

the transitions just weird.

the map seem to cluttered as well the tiles belonging to cities etc just look like a big mess to me

This sort of stuff is making me give it a hard swerve :(

Age transitions seem completely forced

Also from the videos I’ve seen everything just looks like a massive conurbation.

I'll be honest I thought all the people moaning about the UI were just moaning because it's different. I remember the brouhaha when Civ 6 was released about how folk would never leave Civ 5 etc. But I've put quite a few hours in on it and it's even starting to do my nut in

Not always ; depending on how far you progress the "paths" you can choose to keep your cities, armies etc ... to a certain extent. But, in principle, I agree ... the age transitions are weird. They feel disconnected from each other. Just feels wrong to start afresh each age eg. by the end of the antiquity era I had about 20 social policies unlocked, but at the start of the next era ... it's as if my civilisation has forgotten everything it has learned and I'm back to a basic 2 or 3 policies to choose from.
