***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

Another update dropping today, with various improvements and balance changes, as well as two new Civs and leaders for those on the Founder or Deluxe editions.

I finally removed this from my wish list, watched a few more reviews and people playing, and decided it's not for me. Shame as first time in the series, excluding mobile etc, and is my longest ever franchise I still play all the way back to civ 1 on the Amiga

It'll be fine in another 6 months :p

I'm gonna start a new game tonight I think ... Few more changes, see how it feels. So sad I've only played 3 or 4 full runs so far..

Åh jeez I still really dislike age changes it just feels like 3 independent games...

Hopefully by that time I'll have a PC that it will actually be playable on. TBH though the more I look at it the less I'm I'm likely to even though I have a copy gifted to me me that I can't refund

I have purposely avoided info about this game to be surprised when I try it (waiting for discount deal).

But is it as in depth as civ 6/5/4 was after 2 exp's? I am pretty convinced the first iteration and exp is way to basic/simple and thus boring.

At the moment, no, it's quite shallow in depth, and choice of civilisations/leaders. Since Civ 5, though, this series has never felt fleshed out until all the DLC/expansions have launched. This doesn't look to be any different.

Right now its... Different.

The separation of leader and civilisation can lead to a lot of combinations but "meh?" i dunno if its that good.
The maps are a bit boring and samey.
These 2 little DLCs are criminal and should have been in from day 1.
Religious system is there but horribly watered down.
Trade routes are there but meh?
City management has changed a lot and so have luxury and bonus resources to 5 and 6. Its the same but different.... you'll recognise it from previous versions of civ. Its probably the best thing about 7.
Military has had a rework its "fine" nothing ground breaking. Planes are bit different ships are a bit different... I feel like 7 encourages much bigger armys/unit counts.
culture is a mystery to me ive yet to succeed at it tbh other than basic strategy.
Wonders seem a bit meh, ive not learned them
Natural wonders are bigger and better.

Its definitely not as good as 6 off the bat, if all DLC introduces is more leaders and Civs then... urghhh bit dry. Its Xbox civ, even more than 6 looked...

I'd say it's much more deep than any of them were at launch and about as deep as Civ V got (I didn't like VI enough to see where it got to later on). There's a whole load of interlocking parts, and the way each of them interacts with the leaders, Civs, mementos, and ages means there's masses to understand and master.

I was going for an economic victory today - since it's the only one I've not done yet - but screwed up and had nowhere to build a railway in my capital and you can only build factories if they're connected to your capital by rail. Doh! Does seem rubbish that I can't demolish buildings to make way for new ones except when they're from a different age.

Utterly stomped a military victory instead. This was on Diety: as I said above I think the game is skewed too much towards being easy. The more I see of the ages system the more I like it, but if it is intended to provide midgame balance I think it fails at it. Far from balancing things up as you progress, making the right decisions in each age rolls you into the next with a huge advantage that you can roll into the next and then the next. From being behind through the first half of the Antiquities age, I came through to the Exploration age with an edge in Science, Culture, and Influence and enough money and influence banked to get off to a flying start. My only problem was propelling the age through too quickly to get my last treasure fleets home and complete the economic legacy path.

Finished a game today I think 5th and still in the final era combat is just s colossal mess. Way too much clutter. I still struggle to find my airfields among all the tanks and rooftops.

Treasure fleets are pretty hit and miss, I've had a game with them practically 1 turn away and others were I struggled to find them..

The game is growing on me but I'm still a way to go.

Well once I can customise city names and ‘one more turn’ has been reinstated I might just bite and purchase Civ7. God I’m so shallow!
