Sigh. Hope don't regret my HD555

I'm thinking about getting the HD 555 as well since my Medusa's packed in. That's the last time i ever buy anything from Speed Link. Not only did one of the speakers snap off from the flimsy plastic (which i was able to fix with glue), now they have completely died, absolutely no power whatsoever and i've maybe only had them for one year.

Can anyone tell me though if the HD 555's would be good for plugging into an X-box 360? I'm thinking of using them in my VGA cable and want to know if it would be worthwhile?

For css i turned to 2.1 even when i had the medusas :P

It didn't help at all, if you have a decent sound card it will emulate 5.1 in 2.1 devices anyways. With my audigy 2 there is a clear difference if a sound is infront of me or behind me.

Also, in css the 5.1 sound didnt work at all well with the medusas because the rear speakers were too tinny.

Also they broke within a year and a half of me buying them.

I wouldn't recommend them from my own experiences, but then mine were mostly negative. That said, they did perform fine in 2.1 mode and music in 5.1 upmixed by CMSS was pretty nice.

Over the last few weeks I have just about driven myself insane over what pair of headphones to get, and while I really wanted a surround set I landed up going with the hd555's, as most people said that surround headphones did not really help with positioning in games.

The other choice would have been the Speedlink Medusas 5.1's with the amp.

Through all my searching I could not find anyone doing a direct comparison, having used both sets. Until now, 5 minutes after my hd555's arrive, I find http://techgage.com/article/speedlink_medusa_51_and_sennheiser_hd555/

And of course, for gaming the Speedlinks come out on top.

I have read about many people having problems with X-fi cards with the speedlinks, but I think that is probably only some and often down to the users.

I really was put off by all the people saying "you don't need 5.1 headphones for good positioning". But now that I think about it, I can't help but wonder how many of those people are purists, and how many have even given the surround headsets a try.

Right now I am wishing I had gotten the Medusas to try first. Hell, I think I might just go and order some right now and compare them directly myself, and to hell with all the guess work.

Any update on how you're finding them?
