Sign here if your Steam account has NEVER been compromised

I put zero effort into being ultra careful, I almost never run full system AV scans, I usually disable active protection, I usually don't bother installing things like spybot, or alternatives, I have dozens of accounts games, banks, shops, forums, etc, etc.

I've got similar/same few passwords for most, the only person I've had trouble with, is myself, because anything I don't use really frequently I'll forget which version of my password I've used, and thats it.

All I do is, not click on pop up's, use a pop up killer which mostly works, have AV installed and run a scan very very infrequently if the computers acting strange. not click on any e-mails that insist my account needs help, not login anywhere I don't know, not log in to any account management type places, for WoW, or anything else, without going to the site myself.

So with as little effort as I could possibly make, I've managed to not have any problems, simply by not being a moron and using that thing thats seemingly ever more lacking in every day society, common sense.

Likewise, the NCSoft situation , didn't they rectify any problems, did anyone actually end up screwed out of it, if not, how can you use it as a example of getting screwed over. Likewise your premise that e-mails went to the wrong address also assumes anyone who gets someone elses login info will immediately log in and screw someone, if I got e-mailed someone elses password/login by mistake, I wouldn't go and "hack" someone just because I had the info, anyway, its life, mistakes happen.

If they made no effort to fix the situation thats one thing and you might have a point, if they fixed everything and haven't made the same mistake since, whats the issue?

Anyway, after all that, I really dislike steam, I don't like the interface, don't particularly like loading up an app, just to load up another app, and its not the fastest log in, either opening up steam itself, games opening up within steam take infinately longer than every other game I've owned. I dislike leaving things open just incase I use them and dislike the intergration of store, communities and popups and other rubbish. Should have an option, open up, list of games, thats it, nothing else a barebones tiny in size application without any of the rubbish, with buttons to open other things should you want to.

Not had any problems with mine.

My son lost his, but I suspect he did something stupid.

I got it back because I kept his retail copy of Left4Dead and sent a photo of the serial number to Steam to prove ownership. Since then the account is linked and verified to one of my email accounts, so it won't happen again.

The Oxford dictionary describes hacked as follows:

Hack, (hacked, hacked) - verb : to give one's password to the wrong person and blaming it on a third party in order not having to face one's stupidity.

Heres one to throw in the works

i DID have my steam account compromised, i have some suspicions as to how it happened. I was online at the time, playing something though im not sure what when the people i was on voice comms with asked why i messaged them with some link. i looked at my steam friends status and it appears im logged out of it, "hrmmmmm" i say, cant log back in to it. Sent a quick ticket to the steam account recovery team and had my account back within a couple hours. No issues since.

Unfortunately common sense defense only gets you so far, only been badly hit PC wise once as most things have been easily cureable. From one of the many online streaming sites i was watching a purely legitimate recording of a show but one of the adverts for the site had evidently been compromised and due to not using my regular browser a popup happened, PC loads popup, gets mega virus and spend the next 4 hours fixing it :\

Still, lesson learnt and i know even more on how to fix the random arse that comes from the internet at times.

steam account never been "hacked"

infact none of my other online gaming accounts have been "hacked" either :D

I dont have a problem with being hacked online, I wouldnt lose anything out of it other than a free account. I would have a problem with losing all the money put into steam, if I had all of my games on Steam and having said account banned by Valve.

I just also wrote hacked as in 'Banned / Hacked', as definate possibilities of happening to anyone that had all of their games on Steam, and so the OP felt the need to create this thread.

and theres a chance that i could lose my life by crossing the road one day.
doesn't mean im going to stop crossing the road.

and i value my life higher than i value my games collection on steam, afterall without life the games would be pointless to have anyways :P
