Tell that to the dick that pulled out on me breaking my wrist in 3 places and leaving me with pain/reduced use of my hand forever, he didnt "see me".

Completely agree, my bikes exhaust is fairly damn loud, but I get seen, filtering through traffic cars move out of my way (politely I must add) because they can hear me coming.

At least bike exhausts sound nice, not like *****y little 1.2litre 4pots with a cherry bomb stuck on them

Race Cans on a bike have dubious effect to motorist obsevation due to the directional nature of the sound, especially at speed. But there are other things to consider such as power commanders used to remove emmissions flat spots (will become illegal even though they are beneficial for safety). Why shouldn't a motorcyclist be able to improve the performance of his bike like any car owner can with a remap?

I felt this legislation was the thin end of the wedge and that if we agree to this for motorcyclists the car legislation would come next.

I understand the issue with louder exhausts on cars and bikes, they can be very annoying in the hands of irresponsible owners who think the noise must be as loud as possible at all times (to draw attention imho). I have a 4inch system on my Scoob, but once into the built up area I drive it like I am a mouse trying to sneak past a cat, I have consideration for my neighbours and dont want a vehicular ASBO (section 58 order?).

Having an exhaust over the current restriction is a anti social thing to do much as it is for a car and in can not in anyway be proven to be safer -

Why could it not be proven? Is there something fundamental about a noisy exhaust that would prevent any safety benefits (or lack of) being studied?

What bike do you ride anyway? Is it quieter than most most cars?

Had someone pull out on me while in the car last night, I think I'll go and fit an air raid siren to the roof.

The number of bikers I see in low light conditions with their "safety" exhaust booming away but choosing to wear black leathers and a black helmet pretty much cancels out that argument.

I agree, wearing dark clothing and especially helmets is not a clever idea. It's been proven that black helmets present a surprisingly greater risk (IIRC something like 24% greater chance of being hit).

Indeed, however, black is not invisible, I have never pulled out on a motorcyclist wearing black because I have the god given sense to look for them, and let's not mention the fact that as well as black leathers/helmet they still have a damn big headlight blazing away. You are far more likely to see that than the colour of their helmet/leathers.

From the front...

I'm not trying to condone people pulling out on bikers because they claim not to have seen them. I am simply pointing out that using the excuse of it being safer to have an ASBO exhaust rather than a more suitable one is a load of bull when wearing something to increase visibility would be much more effective.

Two different things though; hi vis clothing only helps if people actually look in the first place. Noise tends to attract peoples attention.
