New legislation stopping bikers from fitting aftermarket parts, could also follow for cars at some stage.

https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22251

Reject EU (Motorcycle) 'Anti-tampering' legislation, this included Art 18 & 52, that will prevent owners customising their bikes and/or using after ma

Responsible department: Department for Transport

This will automatically become UK law soon and it means that bikers will not be able to customise their bikes in anyway or use cheaper (still safe & approved) 'after market' parts making it too expensive for the average rider – None of these directions make any sense at all and will not improve safety in anyway; just line the pockets of the large foreign bike manufactures. Bikers wil be singled out by the police and stopped and emissions checked; this is discriminatory. They also propose to ban filtering through traffic, which would be dangerous for air-cooled machines that could blow up in traffic and is the extreme of nanny state interference. Banning of motorcycles over 7yrs old in Urban areas. Clearly the EU intent to eradicate ALL motorcycles in the future and this is the thin end of the wedge...nanny state at its worst and it must be stopped right now! This EU legislation must be rejected by the UK government .

Already on this via a different source. Sign up people or your World will change without you even noticing.

Is this, in part, caused by the constant use of exhausts clearly marked not for road use by bikers?

If I don't have to sit at the lights with a bean can exhaust right by my ear with the engine being revved every 3 seconds then I can't say I'll be too disappointed.

If she wanted her e-petition to be taken seriously (are they ever?) then she should really have used a spell checker and stayed away from the term "nanny state". Exploding bikes was probably a bit extreme too.

If this would cut the number of excessively loud bikes commuting through the city then I would be in favour. It's hardly like bikes are slow/quiet in standard form anyway.

Why are these e-petitions always written so badly?

Also, can anyone link me to the actual EU documentation? All Google keeps bringing back are forums of people moaning about it.

That seems to have very little to do with what the petition blabs on about.

It states ABS should be mandatory on bikes over 125cc for new vehicles from 2017 onwards, modifications to a bike deemed dangerous would be banned, expanded emissions tests, on-board diagnostics and easier access to vehicle maintenance information.

I don't see what the issue is?

Loud exhausts Save lives mate & new bikes sound like electric hairdryers & Cannot be heard by motorists inside there insulated bubble whilst playing Adelle.
Thanks for your misinformed contribution though.

I find the use of eyes solves this issue.

What the petition states is a sensationalised misunderstanding of what the proposal is actually about, and what the proposal is actually about is perfectly fine in my eyes.

Safer, greener bikes that are easier and cheaper to fix...

In fairness I agree with you here.

Whilst loud bikes are annoying, they are no more annoying than loud (as in chav loud) cars.

And whilst I do keep a look out for them, I usually hear them first.

There's not a snowballs chance in hell that the nonsense this individual alludes to in her petition will ever come into force.
