Significant incident Plymouth

It’s a horribly strange thing to say, but we’re kind of lucky in that although there’s many guns in the country, most are in the hands of criminals who only really use them to intimidate and kill each other. They’re very rarely turned on innocent members of the public.

Estimates are just under 4 million firearms in Britain with around half of those legally owned. Of the ones not legally owned a large proportion are thought to be stashed by the likes of the IRA and rarely if ever used and a few 100 thousand are antiques or souvenirs and unlikely to see use as well.

Fortunately the majority of those owned by criminals are used for gang on gang violence as you said.

Yeah, imagine being able to defend yourself against someone attacking you.

Or getting randomly shot in a run of the mill disagreement!

Says it all. We have maybe one of these types of incident every few years. It's a daily occurrence over there. Sad.

Oh the only one who had time to even try to defend themselves was unarmed, both them and the person with the gun got shot though but are alive

The homicide per capita rate in the USA is more than 4 times as high as it is in the UK. How much worse do you think it would be without the abundance of guns? Also, why do you think it's so much higher there?

That's right next time a gunman comes at me I'm going to throw hurfdurfs keyboard at him and hope for the best?

It's a tragic situation which couldn't be stopped by anyone but the police realistically.

Next time? What did you do last time.

But he difference is the guy you got in a disagrewnt with doesn't have a gun.

So you don't get shot outside tesco on a normal day.

Or by your spouse

Indeed. The call for cowards who want guns to defend themselves never take into account the fact that if they had guns, so would the bad guys. And that presently, they aren’t currently under attack with guns, and can therefore, in 99% of situations, use the best form of defence, which is running away.

The bad guys already carry knives or guns.

Police have confirmed 6 people died, the shooter, 3 men and 2 women. No mention of any children thankfully.

Edit: BBC have now updated their article to say a child was killed :(
