Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Anyone have many dealings with flavoured coffee? I purchased some amaretto flavoured beans recently, quite enjoyed it but wasn't a very strong coffee like I'm used to.

If I have to use flavourings, I use syrups rather than flavoured beans. You never really know what the coffee it underneath, plus you can get some amazing results with a known coffee and a known syrup that match each other.

Aeropress, porlex grinder and beans all pointed out to the misses on hasbean.co.uk... here's hoping for christmas!

Sounds like it could be a good christmas. :)

As discussed a week ago, Amazon are doing it for £167 currently. Although I think they're also starting to use Yodel too.

ive been keeping my eye on the price to see if it would fall further but they have crept up to £169 now, as expected though just before Xmas :/

I've given links to the porlex grinder and an aeropress to my girlfriend as well. I'll buy my own beans though. Looking forward to getting it!

I use the porlex/aeropress combo. I've found that after a couple of months of use the hole where the crank handle thing connects to the nut on top of the grinder itself has become pretty chewed. I reckon it's only got a month or so left before it won't be useable at all.

Araldite and a couple of metal washers should sort that. I've done exactly that on my Hario Skerton. Actually works a bit better now as they're a tighter tolerance than the original hole was.

Did you follow an online guide on how to do that with the Skerton? I remember seeing a guide and there were some nylon spacers that I couldn't source here in the UK.

I haven't used mine for a while due to inconsistent grinding (and also getting tired of hand grinding!!). I've been using a cheap Krups electrical burr grinder that somebody gave me which gives a pretty decent grind for filter.

Nope. Just went through the bits I have lying around and found a couple of nice washers and added one to the top and one to the bottom. It does mean that I've had to adjust the grind settings I used as they push the ring up slightly, but still works nicely. I could add a few more underneath to extend the support and get a better grind too. May need a touch of lubrication then though.

Will have a think.

Ah cheers fella, I'll give that a try.

I do fancy an electric one now though. Getting up in the morning and having to face a solid 5 minutes of hand cranking (and not the good kind) in order to get a cup of coffee for me and the missus is sometimes pretty daunting.

Recently I've been resorting more and more to ......... tea (I know, I know).

this looks interesting: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zpmespresso/pid-controlled-espresso-machine

if it does what it says it does I really want one - the problem is the if. $200 would be a bargain price (plus $11.99 & import duty) for a properly temp and pressure controlled machine - hell $300 would be good... now to gamble or not to gamble!

That's really quite interesting. I'm extremely tempted but given that my current machine is relatively decent and that I'll probably need to buy a new one in 6 months anyhow I might hold off.

In my case, a couple of M6 nuts and an electric screwdriver. ;) Still easily transportable. ;)

Ooooh, seems very interesting. It's certainly making all the right noises, what with the PID, E61 and so on. I'd want to know about the shot recovery times, shot to steam speed and general steaming capability though.

OK I'll have totry that on my next order!!
At the moment i've got a fair bit of Santa Marta Pacamara and Zarcero Honey Process to get through so hopefully by early new year they will have some left.
