Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Interesting - the low retention, compact form factor, and reputation .. and colour palette.
I dislike the idea of having to use a funnel on the portafilter.

I can't now unsee the video on eureka burr balancing with tinfoil shims - hadn't considered that before, for next time I clean my rocky.

where Ray gone,he's the Niche man ?
but after earlier discussion I'd read a comparison of Niche with profitec t64, think the latter would get my money 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds from bellabarista : engineering & geekish timer .....
(if I didn't go 2nd hand)

Review: Profitec Pro T64 Coffee Grinder

I’ve had a niche for around 18m now and very happy with it. I like the single dosing. Put the metal pot on my scales and weigh out my 18g. whack it through the niche and upend into the portafilter. Very little mess with it and quick and consistent. It’s so very quiet compared to other grinders I’ve used before also. I don’t have the new gizmo to stop it popcorning, but I really don’t think that causes much of an issue anyway in reality. Very happy with it

Would be surprised if he doesn't have a non-compete clause for a year or two, but sure he'll pop up once hes burned through all the buy out money ;)

He's now the Green coffee buyer at 3FE.

I knew Steve had maintained his interests in 3FE and Drop Coffee in Stockholm so I expected him to turn up somewhere. I would have assumed it'd be Drop Coffee as I believe the co-owner of Drop Coffee is Steve's financee.

Best of luck to him. He's a thoroughly decent chap.

Finally got my water filter installed, just went for an in-line one on the cold tap, rather than getting a new tap with a separate line. Pretty much only gets used for filling kettle and coffee machine anyway!

Just wanted to show off my best latte art attempt to-date. Loving the symmetry (well, almost!) :)

Ended up with another classic for parts but turned out to be a much better machine once completely stripped!

Dropped it to 9 bars and got a new grinder (bit of an impulse buy).

you're combining 2 2nd hand machines .... the grouphead+dispersion plate+gasket looks filthy in both ! ( i included a tank + dispersion/gasket photo when i sold last machine)

chrome plating on inside of boiler impressive build; what did you descale/de-residue with ?

Easy Borat, that's what happens when coffee is left to dry :)

With one run of citric it was lovely:

(picture of your groupheaddesk right now - parody gd thread ?)

pretty sure it would still match this older shot - usually wiped over &plate removed every 3 days, and backflush every 2 weeks

looks good - not tempted to have one for coffee and one for milk ;) Nice new grinder too - there are some 3d print files around for single dose funnel replacements, seems to work well on my specialita

love it - Hoffmanns 'best cheap espresso setup for £250' = gaggia classic + MC2

I did go down the 2nd hand gaggia classic route about 5 years ago. Kept it for about 6 months. Bought the machine I have now (Rancilio Siliva) added a PID to it. It's a good machine but I'm annoyed about the frame. The powder coating has started to fail & its going rusty. At some point I'm going to have to take it to bits to sort the rusty frame out. Not something I'm relishing TBH. If there was a firm that sorted this design flaw out I'd send it off to them.

Yeah I did check a little while ago, they are about £60-70. It's the faff that involves taking it to bits & putting it back together again. It's not that I want to & its not like it's a PC, where I know what i'm doing. It's a Espresso machine & I don't have a clue, it took me the best part of a day to fit a PID to this machine. If I bought a frame for it I'd want to strip the powder coating off it, get the frame zinc plated then paint it so it would last a fair bit longer than the bog standard frame. I'm certain that someone has tried this before at some point.

I wouldn't want my machine in bits for too long either as it's used daily.

Arrived a few days ago, but only just had time to post:

It's been great so far, had one issue the other day where the steam boost didn't activate after pulling a shot, but I think I may have done something wrong!
