Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

It sounds to me as though the Magnifica pushes water through the "puck" until the cup is full. That won't taste as good as a real americano.

Maybe a drip machine would suit you better then?

Otherwise if the Magnifica has served you this well all this time maybe just get another? Or a Nespresso machine.
Could do. So many machines to choose from.. It's crazy.

I just wanted to ask the community if anyone else has a bean to cup machine and is an Americano fiend see what they were using. Maybe there's a machine out there that perfects the Americano.. I have no idea.

In some ways a filter machine is the best way to get good americano* - not bean to cup really but can be pretty low effort once setup!

a Sage Precision Brewer and fellow ode would be a good shout :)

*americano like coffee

Isn't strictly speaking Americano = Espresso + hot water?

Whereas Filter Machine = Filtered Coffee.

I was going to suggest either, get a kettle.....and add water. Is that too far in the manual process?

If you want filter then just V60, or a Hario Switch. Which will get you filter coffee than any machine IMO and idiot proof. I mean you will need to get a grinder but that too is just 1 button to operate.

Americano is espresso+ water.

Filter coffee is that drip coffee they call coffee in America which is absolutely horrible..

Not all drip coffee is horrible. James Hoffmann himself uses a V60/Hario Switch as his main coffee machine method. American drip coffee is bad for many other reasons.

Yeah.. I wouldn't even call American drip actual coffee..

haven't they kept the receipt

A v60 4-5 times a day, cleanup and prep-time(water at right temp ..) would be tedious,
so a machine with some limited warmup where you can just add ground coffee/bean-hopper is preferable

yes - america diner drip coffee usually bad from the bean quality perspective, otherwise the filter machine with water at the right temp would be fine.

Filter coffee is just as good as espresso, it's just different.

I have nearly 2k worth of espresso kit but still half my coffee is filter done in with a 5 quid Hario.

A few workplaces I've been at have Jura machines, and they're useless. Forever getting clogged up and needing dismantling. Avoid.
That's good to know..

I feel like I've gone down the coffee machine rabbit hole.

Has anyone here had any experience with Siemens coffee machines? The EQ900 or 700?
