Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Quick couple of questions for those who have the Iberital MC2...

Can it grind coffee to the right consistancy for a stove top/moka pot?

Also do you know what the difference is between the Iberital MC2 and the Iberital MC2 AUTO and which is better.

I'm thinking of ordering one to go with my stovetop if its suitable.

Cheers

Ferret

The MC2 Auto doesn't have a doser, so the ground coffee comes straight out. With the doser, it goes in there, then you dose it from there into whatever. Personally, I think the doser is pointless for home use as it encourages you to grind too much, so either you waste coffee or use stale coffee the next time around.

Does anyone know if the MC2 is suitable/ or overkill for making myself a cup of coffee in a stove top, should I just get a manual grinder instead?
Depends how much coffee you drink? If you just have one of a morn then perhaps just get a knee mill, if you have a few each day then an mc2 or similar will save plenty time/effort.

The Iberital MC2 can go from very fine to very coarse, it just takes an age adjust the hopper depending how you want the grind! e.g I use the hopper on setting 2-3 for espresso but if I want to use a French press I adjust the hopper 2x anticlockwise to get a very coarse grind!

Just to advise you all that Gaggia UK has lost it's distributorship for gaggia equipment after Phillips made the aquisition of the saeco group (of which gaggia was owned). I am not sure how this will effect the end user for domestic equipment (probably will improve overall service long term) However It will effect service warranty in the short term. The comercial market is a lot less clear as phillips have not made it known what there intentions are with this side of the market. I will post back any info that maybe of interest to you guys as and when I come across it.

Thats frustrating :(

I hated Philips anyway - their products are crap and incredibly unreliable.

Never tried Nespresso to be honest. I've just assumed that because the machines are available for as little as £29 and the fact that you are tied into using their own pods they probably aren't worth the box they are packed in. I had images of fake crema like you get with sachets of instant cappuccino.
?

I think you're getting Nespresso mixed up with some of the more recent cheap imitations. The machines are generally in the £100-£600 pound range (the integrated miele one is over a grand) and the broad range of coffees means you will probably find at least one grand cru that you really like, but there is such a variation between them that you really do need to try them all to find the one(s) for you.

I've had the Gaggia Automatic one now for years and the quality and consistency of the coffee is such that I am almost always disappointed by the expresso I get after even a great meal out in a restaurant or café.

With the right beans and know-how you can make a better cup of coffee as Siliconslave has so ably demonstrated. What Nespresso offers is ease of use, consistent quality and no drop off in taste after you open the box/packet. Every capsule is hermetically sealed, so the last one in the box tastes just as good as the first, even if you brew it weeks/months later.

Oh dear.

I think it's fair to say the Italians know a little more about making good coffee than the Dutch ;)

By next year everything will be fine. trust me. ;)

Just finished my last coffee from my InMyMug subscription from HasBean.

This one

It is totally worth the money. Actually, it's probably the best coffee I've ever tried. Could drink it all day through a filter cone. Which considering I usually start the morning with a double espresso and I've been abandoning it for the Geisha is remarkable. :D It does make a great espresso too - I prefer it as filter though.

I will order some more soon.

Ok, so my hard working Krupps Espresso Machine has just gone pop and I am in the market for a new one.

I would be grateful for any suggestions for a new machine for, say, £ 250. Although, I would be happy to pay a bit more if necessary. Are the new Gaggias up there with the "Classic"??

Make two cups every morning.

I so wish I had subscribed to IMM, all I hear is good things about that coffee. At £18, I don't think I'll buy it on it's own!

Can't think of anything to recommend in that price range, unless you can find a Gaggia Classic somewhere - but as Gaggia UK have gone bankrupt any spares may take a while to appear.

so been messing around with the gaggia i bought recently and had a quick noob question that i couldn't find anywhere. I'm using the larger basket, how many shots is that good for? one 50ml shot glass? or two?

just tried it with some monmouth coffee freshly roasted and ground this morning at their roasting house, and my god is it fantastic coffee compared to the ground stuff i've bought in starbucks, think a grinder will be coming my way soon!

The enlightening! :D

i know, i'd always thought to myself it can't be that much better can it? but it really is, so much smoother and flavoursome, trouble now is stopping myself drinking too much coffee!

Was just about to find this thread and post in it!!

Since I've had my Rancilio Silvia I've never been able to get decent micro foamed milk with the 3 hole tip so for the last few days I have been trying to source a single holed tip, but the only place I could find them were from America, and they wanted silly prices for shipping. So this evening, I busted out the soldering iron and blocked two of the 3 holes. OMG my first try and I have micro foamed milk that was good, although maybe a bit to thick!! but atleast I'm on the right track now!!! Wooooop.

I've currently got 2 In My Mug subscriptions, one for home, and one for the office. Enjoyed one subscription so much I found I was going through 250g in 5 evenings, and was craving good coffee at work. 2 is a little much, but it's great getting 500g of wonderful fresh coffee every week. Loving trying coffee I wouldn't normally go for.

£50 for 12 x 250g of coffee delivered weekly is great value too. For anyone wanting to try new coffee, without the hassle of picking stuff every week, I'd recommend going for it. But I don't think we'll see £18 bags of Geisha very often. ;)
