I'm thinking about joining the Gym but I was wondering, I was going to do some weight lifting first then do some cardio, Is it better to go onto the cardio machines, such as the treadmill or go for a swim after the weights.

Thanks
Chris

Thats what I do, Tend to do 30 - 40 mins cardio then 3 sets of 15 on each of the machines then a swim to cool it off.

What do you recommend?

Should I do weight lifting for a few months, then when i've gained the muscle I want then do some cardio?

I'm going to my work now, Won't be able to reply till about midnight.

I mainly want to lose some weight, but I also want to gain muscle as I am extremely weak.
Then you want to lose weight and strengthen your existing muscle.

As said though, you can't really do both at the same time. Get a fit cardiovascular system first, then work on your muscles.

If I do cardio first then my length of time I can do weights for is limited...tend to get tired after 30 mins or so. However..I can do 60 to 90mins of heavy duty weight training (as long as Im not heavy working legs) and still pop out 20 mins cardio at the end.

However...if you want to build strength and muscle and aint to bothered about total fitness....dont do any cardio in the same session. After the weight training your body will need the energy (with food) to rebuild the muscle.

Wieght training with a good diet will loose you fat anyway...and build muscle at the same time.

Might be worth you spending some time doing a weighted circuit. An instructor at your gym should be able to help you out.
As said, don't go nuts doing cardio, but circuits will contain resistance training and cardio, neither at such a high intensity that one overrides the other, but both worked enough to help increase strength and muscle tone, and shed some fat.
Thats what circuits do.....provided you are given the right one.

define muscle tone for me....

Surely what you feel happy with, everyones definition will be different. Anyway, have you been to the gym before?? Played sport when you where younger??

Also, what are your stats? Weight, height, waistline etc

thats why im asking him to define 'muscle tone' so that i can understand what he is trying to claim circuits will do.

I guess the rest of what you posted is irrelevent to me and aimed at the OP?

No Morba, because you will start sprouting needless semantics. I think you know what i meant as will most.
Instead of making your 1st post in this thread analysing 'excactly' what i said and no doubt feeling the need to 'correct' me, why not give the op the benefit of your vast experience and knowledge. I'm sure you will deliver a more thought-out and scientific post than mine, thus helping him better than me.
I don't mean to be aggressivley defensive but i know your posting style mate and you're just baiting a needless point. The 'muscle tone' was a comment that would likely be glossed over by most in the understanding that it simply meant it would help your muscles develop.
That's all. Don't make something out of nothing mate.

Not making something out of nothing, wanted to know what you were saying before building on it, thats all.
Nevermind!

Yeh but how can someone define muscle tone to you? is there a definitive answer?

Yeh the other questions were directed at the thread starter.
