sim city 4

Ive had another quick go on it.
Im doing better than before, but im finding it really hard to make money.
And for some reason i deleted the fairview region thinking it'd only get rid of my city, but the entire region has gone! :(

The city i have at the moment has a population of about 2000, but im finding it hard making money. My income is about 1100, but outgoing is about 2900!!!

I make about 1000 a month in residential taxes, but commercial taxes only makes me about 36 a month.
My industrial region has only a few things in it, but has more than enough zoning for a lot of expansion, yet there is continued demand in both cities for industrial.
Ive tryed everything to get things going. Ive improved healthcare & education in my main city to make my sims smarter, ive got subway stations and links between in both cities.

Nothing seems to be working! :(

I might give up again and start over.

Bulldoze the subway, bulldoze the healthcare, bulldoze the education, if its really bad, if not that bad yet just drop funding, but for beginners you just need power and zones, rest can always be added when you have more dough...

I thik i'll start again when i next have some free time, start v.small, and follow that guide on Simtropolis.

Question though, agricultural zoning is just for farms isnt it? Worth doing in its own region?
And i take it 'medium industrial' is the main industrial i'll be looking for at first?

Farming on really creates jobs rather than tax ie;

162 lots of 9x9
81 lots of 9x6

Gets me £1000 a month, a lot of land for £1000. Also you should have a gap of 8sq between farming and residential due to water pollution or a couple of water treatment plants but they are expensive.

Funny how a game 5 years old can get people really invigerated (sic?) again. Shows how the best games like this can really make a difference.

Plus i now know there is to be a SC5 which is relly something to get excited about, might even make me purchase Vista.... then again maybe not :p

I'm there... Maxis/EA said they will be going in a different direction and not making it anymore complex :)

And yea, if SC4 wasnt out I'd be playing SC3000, if SC3000 wasnt out I'd be playign SC2000, for those who like those games where you actually create something from scratch are the ultimate timesink.

*Gets all teary eyed about CIV/CIV2 & MOO*

Noo, I want it to be mroe complex, more complex traffic problems, more complex all kinds of problems, that's what i like about sc4, to solve problems in my cities, especially traffic ones... :(

Quote from Snowdog,

The roundabouts are part of the Network add-on mod (NAM).
Freeway underpass isnt a mod, it's a default ingame maxis tunnel...[/QUOTE]

In the pic on page 2 you posted, you've got a freeway on a lower level than the surroundings and then there is a tunnel, yeah i agree the tunnel is ingame default.

But did you have to basically have to lower your land to do make the freeway under the main ground level ? or is this something I'm missing.

I can only build Ground level freeways or elevated freeways ?

If you did have to lower the land how did you make it so neat ?

Ah cheers, Can't view the link from work so I'll check it out this evening.

Ta,

I have that problem too...

They also block Fototopic and You Tube which can be a PITA. Ruddy IT!

Ta,

Right downloaded the link and unzipped it and have no idea what I'm supposed to do now !

I'd have though they're be a .exe file that would just install itsself, they're is loads of .sc4 file and a word readme file that I can't read as I don't have work installed.

Any ideas ?

I had a good play on this finally starting my own towns... some farming some industial etc... One of them I decided to put a raised rail system in, but nobody is using it, anyone tell me why this might be?

Would love some more complex problems reallty. But i dont want ******* Sims in my world if thats what maxis want. The last thing i want is to be worrying about the running of false peoples lives while my city needs my attention> Esp as what i have seen of sims is the worst of Amercian pop culture *starts to froth at mouth and grind teeth furiously*

I've started getting high wealth people move in, but they haven't got any jobs? They have that "no briefcase" sign above their house?

So I tried building some high-density industry on some land that's supposed to be desireable for high-tech industry, but it still didn't build..?

 Bit confused when it comes to high-wealth houses..?

The briefcase sign means the comute from there house is to far I think, build some Hugh commercial near them.

Well I was making some small farming towns for practice, but got kinda carried away with one of them :O Really liking the game now :D

 awesome

How do you get those skyscrapers to build?

I have areas where high wealth desireability on pretty much everything is high, and it's watered, and powered, but it still doesn't build :( I'm missing something to make my little sims actually feel the need to build big buildings :p

Skyscrapers require time, a few pointers to achieve them:

  • Good health care/hospitals
  • Good education (colleges/unis a must)
  • Good access to subways/avenues
  • Airport or seaport help (these boost commercial demand like crazy)
  • At least 4x4 minimum zones, otherwise they won't fit ;)

Well, I got 2 out of 5 :p It is a quite complex game, but seems the kind of game where it'll all seem quite simple after a while :)
