sim city 4

Im getting annoyed now.
Ive followed the guide on Simtropolis to making a small city, but for the life of me, even though there are power links between the two cities, i cannot get my residential city powered! :(.
Didnt know you could do that, powering cities with another one in the next region... Guess I need to play more still... Only played a few hours so far, it seems a lot slower than SC2000 (had 3000 but never found time to play it).

Performance wise, seems a bit inconsitent, worked ok first time i ran it, second time its really quite slow, specially when zooming in or out. *shrug* I just cant wait to get home and play some more, even then I'm playing sim city on my phone lol

I noticed though that in my ~40,000 city They crave a LOT of industrial, half of my city is industial, is this a normal phase for a city or is there something I can to to promote more Commercial or somethnig? I've already changed taxes so theres high tax on industry and low on commercial.

Did that.
Didnt make a difference.
I got bored now, ive realised that it takes a lot of time to get a good city going, and i dont have that sort of time tbh. Shame really. :(

anyone no any sites to download regions/cities? Successful ones etc, simtroplis doesnt seem to have any, just mods.

There hardly are any I've searched for them about 1-2 years ago, but it's a bit pointless since everyone is running different mod directory's...
The 2 city's I did download gave loads errors could not find file @ start and when playing a lot of buildings didn't have textures but were brown boxes ( wich means i lack that building...)

@ BoomAM

Tbh the power, water and garbage deals between city's are rubbish, offers too little and you have to contstantly update it, just start with a coal plant in corner and powerline to residential on other side of the map, add a forest in between if distance is short between res and power plant...

Once coal is oevrloading and you need more watts: Get a windmill park open and look @ power graph to have exactly how many u need.

By this time you should have unlocked solar, if not nuclear power, either of them will do: Clean power and not as expensive per watt as windmills, drop funding on windmills or destroy em if you get a nuke plant...

@ tomanders91
I assume you dont have rush hour, if not then only thing you can do is highways really, and more subways offcourse, sometimes you even need to destroy tall appartements to make room for a highways, since if you dont, people will start leaving due to commute time...

EDIT:

Also dont make an open road system, force sims to take highways or public transport by making it the only route, like this:

Thats it, im gonna get out and buy Rush Hour, the extra stuff makes cities look so much nicer :D

Tbh all it adds is avenue's and rest is pretty poor, I mean nice to have stuff, but not worth buying the game for it...

Most of the stuff in my pics for example are mods, BUT they do indeed need rush hour exp. to work.... Imo it's worth to get rush hour only to get 100% mod compatibility... (edit) and avenues...

I have the deluxe version, the avenues are quite useful :)

Think I might spend tonight downloading mods :)

Either that or get a bit tipsy... Choices, choices.

And snow those roundabouts look good :D What are those green railway bits?

Anyone have a clue how to get the game running on dual-core systems? I tried setting affinity to a single core to no avail, the performance is awful and I haven't even started a city yet!

Whats your spec, this game thrives on RAM.
Works fine here on my pentium D @ 3.9 ghz with affinity to both cores...

Don't exactly know what you mean, but most of my railways on that pic have either:

Highway walls, wich happen to have some trees in the lot behind the wall.
or
Ploppable 1x1 random trees lots...

Placed next to rails...

No idea, try resetting the gfx settings by making a shortcut like this:

Code:
"m:\games\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -d:DirectX|Software

Just below your 'read if you want' bit theres some green wall type things surrounding the track... Unless thats something I havent used with regards to railways yet.

1x1 custom ploppable lot (lot = a square Y x Z in size with stuff on it such as buildings, textures, trees, etc...) with random trees on it ( each time u plop it it creates a different set of trees...)

Core 2 Duo E6600
2GB RAM
X1800XT

No idea what is doing it :(

Some kind of settings in catalyst perhaps? On geforce 6800gs here (xp32 bit)...
No idea now tbh, best to ask Maxis/EAgames. Or on sc4 communities like simtropolis...

Ah,. i assumed the roundabouts etc.. were included in Rush Hour as well as they look so much nicer than crossroads :)

Network add-on mod for rush hour (doesnt work on normall sc4)

Has roundabouts, new overpasses, etcetc....

Then do the euro highway mod and euro road textures mod so you get rid of ugly grey concrete american highways and ugly yellow stripes on roads...

I also like roundabouts, I try to avoid traffic lights in my cities since they cause more holdups than roundabouts. (not ingame effective offcourse the speedup, but kinda my way of playing: trying to make it as realistic as i can...)
Plus it looks better...

I went around every shop in Nottingham that sells computer games and not a single one of them had SC4 RH or the Deluxe Edition.

So i've been messing around in plain SC4 tonight and i tried the residential commercial and industrial all in different sections of the region and it worked ok but the biggest pain in the **** that annoys the hell out of me is the having to jump from one zone to another to be able to have it develop and grow. Highly frustrating imo and thats one of the reasons i play SC3k more.

For some unknown reason all big cities grind to a halt even on the best systems with 4GB ram. Probably bad programming.

For some reson the graphics looked crap on mine as well until I switched to software rendering mode.

Played last night when I got home, looked at the big city tutorial and then went back to mine (the city that was the making money tutorial), took it from 40k to 80k, but started having problems with commute time, and the pollution from the industial (was too close to my residential, I blame the tutorial city). I tried redeveloping the industry into residential/commercial and moving the industrial, but it was tough going.

Think its time I stared my own city from scratch, I always liked to build a city with a river going through in SC2000, not only was it easier to segment industry and res/com its looked nice, rivers dont look nice in SC4.

Anyways I do go on...
