Has anyone had any luck negotiating with the networks over these? My contract is due for upgrade on Monday and I don't really want a new phone, so i'm thinking of just going on a rolling contract.

I don't use many minutes or texts, 100/300 would be more than ample, but I need at least 500MB of data.

I'd prefer to stay Orange as well for coverage reasons where I live.

I just wondered if anybody had managed to get a deal not on their site before I potentially phone up and waste my time trying to negotiate with retentions.

Thanks in advance.

Myshra should be able to answer that one.

Don't forget you can get £20 (1 month rolling) or £50-£80 (12 month sim only) cashback from quidco.

I'd be tempted to go T-Mobile if they have 3G sharing up in your area.
The £7.71pm for 12 months deal looks ok. 300mins/texts + unlimited general data with 500mb for downloads/streams. (+ £50 cashback from quidco making it £3.50pm)

...or PAYG iPhone sim with 12 months free data (500mb per month) Seems a good alternative to GiffGaff.

In September I negotiated my contract

Sim Only
500 minutes
3000 texts
1GB of data
Also it's a rolling contract so can give 30 days notice

for £10.32 a month

Very, very happy with that!

It's sorta possible. It depends if we are running a deal or not to be honest but in general it's harder (but not impossible) to get a decent SIMO deal. Are you on the 3G network share yet? If so T-Mo would be an option without any downsides too :)

Deep - that's with some kind of discount/payback right?

I've been with Virgin for 18 months, so not a long stretch of time. However, when I rang them up and showed them that for £15 I could get something similar on Three they offered me the deal above almost immediately.

I've just checked and it turns out you are right, I didn't know this.

Your tariff: PM_V 15 500+3000
Your monthly cost: £15.32

And then £5 credit

Well i'd rather stay with Orange to be fair (better the devil and all that) but I want to be getting as good a deal as possible.

Will call them later and see what happens.

Oh, also this is for an iPhone 4S. Does that rule out the animal packages and hurt negotiatoon potential at all?

I've just been the upgrading loop with Orange. Was originally going to sign up for this

18 month
Motorola Atrix
400 mins
300 texts
unlimited landlines
500Mb Data
£15/month

Asked about SIM only and the best they would do was £12.50 a month without the landline calls.

Asked what they could do a basic phone for a got offered the same as above for £7.52 a month on an 18 month contract.

If you want a rolling contract then its almost certainly best to switch to someone like GiffGaff.

Yeah it will, iPhone users are "made" (not sure if you can over-ride it currently?) to go onto iPhone SIMO deals which usually mean a bigger data allowance at the cost of some of the minutes.

I just went for a sim only a few months back, as I was happy with my phone and the GS2 had just come out and was silly money.
Now the GS2 is available for sensible money, I rang up and when sold the sim only to me they 'accidentally' made it a 12 month contract (despite asking them if Id be able to upgrade or cancel(giving 1 month) and they at the time said yes.
Soon sorted that one out

Interesting, thought this might be the case.

Really, if they were to offer:

100 mins
300 texts
500MB
£10pm

I'd take their hand off.

With Vodafone I get

600 minutes
Unlimited texts
500mb
£10pm

One of my collegues managed to get the same except he negotiated 1.5gb per month for the same price. He's a better negotiator than me :D

Surprised you can negotiate anywhere with Vodafone.
You should try their business section ;)

I'm sorry to dispell the myth but the systems determine the maximum lowest deal they will offer (it's also subject to changes like a drive for more custom or higher ARPU bias) rather than the human being trying to keep you to stay but it's nice to think they are doing their best.

SIMO's profit making ability extremely good (no handset after all) so the deals tend to be pretty competitive, it depends on the network as to how much profit they are willing to (potentially - you may not use all your mins/data/texts) sacrifice in the name of getting custom.

I'd like to think that the fact I cannot get a decent data connection (constantly roaming between edge and gprs) and that BT Openzone is completely useless for me, that I might get a similar deal to those posted above!

Left it late but just got off the phone to them.

NO movement what-so-ever on the iPhone SIM only deals. Charming! :p

Ugh, this is hard to swallow with what T-Mobile are offering, as sarge78 posted above.

Also they do an iPhone PAYG SIM with 12 months free 500MB p/m internet if you top up £10 when you buy it. That's a stonking deal.
