guess it's just lucky no one was asking you then. i happen to think he's a great guitarist, and if you'd heard more than 2 of his songs, you'd know they aren't all about beer and ****ing. not that i want to get into an argument about this, because you wouldn't believe how little i care...just seems like you're pigeon-holing him from 2 songs you've heard.

again. not that i care.

Yes, your utter indifference shines through from that reply.

I didn't say his songs were about beer and ****ing, I said that *he* as a person is like that.

Also, I've heard the whole of 1919 Eternal, Shot to Hell and The Blessed Hellride, all of which didn't do it for me, so I think that's a fair representation of their musical career.

Additionally, I can't stand this pathetic 'biker cult' image he nurtures: the whole BLACK LABEL SOCIETY: LONDON QUARTER or whatever. It's stupid. The guy guitar skills are overrated (reliance on the same e-minor pentatonic scale and wholly inappropriate pinch harmonics are no indication of skill, if you ask me), he hero-worships Ozzy to a ridiculous extent, and attacks musicians far superior to him (e.g. Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden) because of a jingoistic, blind pseudo-patriotism for the beer swilling, inbred part of the United States he comes from.

I think Wylde is far more talented than you give him credit for,imo he has been held back over the years by the restrictive nature of the material he's been involved in creating and performing.

There were early signs that he would go on to become one of the greats, lets face it Ozzy noticed Wylde and hired him when he was still a teenager,Ozzy has been around a few talented players in his time and knows talent when he sees it.

I don't think the problem with Zakk Wylde is lack of talent,I think it's more to do with poor vision,he hasn't developed as he should have due to this souless 'Black Label Society' crap he's been so ensconced in for years!

The early Pride and Glory album and his playing with Ozzy showed real promise, then all of a sudden he's been turned into somekind of beer swilling, biker icon by some smartarsed record company bod looking for a quick buck!

If you ask me Zakk Wylde could have been one of the greats but he's been sold short,a wasted talent! Not sure his bank balance would reflect that though!

try korn and limp bisuit.

They are like metallica with deeper lyrics, although those bands dont have many guitar solo's which is a shame

but musically they are 1000% times better.

:D That made me laugh, it really did.

Thanks for the replies I'll have a look on iTunes later for the mentioned bands.

Which Megadeth songs/albums did you listen to?
I'm not sure of the titles but I played most of the iTunes samples and I thought they sounded similar :).

To continue the slight hijack (sorry).

i don't think you can judge Zakk purely on BLS. Untill you've listened to Pride & Glory, Book of Shadows and Hangover Music. This is where he shines, esp on the piano on some of the slower tracks.

and if you're writing him off for persistant use of a pentatonic scale then you need to write off a load of bands/players as i'm fairly sure that it's quite popular ;).

I feel the same way in respect to the biker look/persona, that really annoys me. However i listen to the music and mostly like it, except Mafia which was really bad :p, so for the most part he can dress/act as he wants.

edit:

id post some videos of some of the quite jazzy stuff he can play, but alas swearing all over the place..

I'd give Strapping young lad a listen, great pompous thrash metal thats miles ahead of anything metallica did...ever.
SYL are the definition of Heavy.

Their drummer (Gene Hoglan) is also arguably the best metal drummer to grace this earth.

Sorry to persist with the OT-ness also, but if you think Zakk has carp vocals/guitar skills you REALLY should check out some of his non-BLS stuff. The Pride & Glory stuff has to be my most played stuff ever, and check out an acoustic version of "Machine Gun Man" here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txbKwHwMohk

Okay, there's no shredding on it but his acoustic playing is excellent.

He isn't the absolute best guitarist in the world, but IMHO he is top five in what he does. Okay, he doesn't sweep pick and he doesn't play exotic scales a la Skolnick/Friedman but that doesn't make them any better. If I want to listen to some balls-out rocking guitar I listen to ZW, he puts ten times more feeling into his playing than most other guitarists I've seen (both live and studio).

Machine Head for the win.

Devin gets bonus points for having been in the Wildhearts... But SYL, nah. Don't get it.

There's one Funeral For A Friend single that most Metallica fans would like... I think it's Juneau, the one that comes with This Year's Most Open Heartbreak and The Art Of American Football on it. I don't think anything else they've done would go down too well but those are two fine songs.

Can't be bothered with Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine, what's the point? Obviously Metallica can't be everywhere, but there's no reason for them to have stunt doubles. It's like S Club Juniors.

Excuse me?! In what conceivable way does metallica sound like ANYthing like meshuggah?

Meshuggah's earlier work is highly influenced by Metallica's thrash metal sound, the singing, guitar tone and song structures are all very similar to metallica's (bar, the rhythms all meshuggah fans love).

Ofcourse, Meshuggah's current sound (about Nothing onwards to Catch 33) is much different to Metallica

If you want to hear where Metallica took some of their sound from try tracking down the "Trespass" track........ "Stormchild" .... Lars was a member of their fan club before Metallica even existed...
