does it exsist? is it even worth the hassle?

wordpress wont install as my sql thingy isnt up to date. (its out of my hands to update it)

joomla is way way to complicated/long winded.

i just want something where i can quickly create a simple menu and then add pages of content that work with the menu ive just created. is that too much to ask?

Just create static pages instead and use a php include to place the menu on each page? Then you can update menu.php with each new item when needed and it will show across the whole site.

i'm happy to help you set up joomla if thats the problem, or host one for you
thanks for the offer mate. i'll have another go myself for now
What version of MySQL are you running if Wordpress won't work? :o
no idea, ive been given the database login details etc and thats all i know

http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/ is just about as simple as a CMS gets.
Its light weight but should be more than flexible for your needs.

Been around for 6 years, is regularly updated and has got a pretty good community.

i'll give that a look:)

Another vote for CMS Made Simple. It is perfect for people starting out with CMS' whilst also quite powerful, with plenty of themes and quite easy to customise.

A few people on here recommend concrete5 which seems pretty nice.

Another vote for C5. It is very easy to get up to speed with. You can add your own custom functionality or download many addons from the c5 marketplace.

I tried concrete5 on a WAMP install but I couldn't get it to connect to the MySQL db, whatever I did. :(

Did you check this out? http://www.concrete5.org/help/building_with_concrete5/installation/hosts/installing_on_windows/

Their forums really aren't great to be honest. i think it will all improve when the user base gets much bigger. I will have my first C5 site finished in a few weeks hopefully so hope things work out well as it is a great system. One thing to watch though is that some of their update versions are flakey and have broken stuff before. I'd always test an update on a non-live site (obviously!).

Cheers. I'm trying to rework work's website and although I'd be happiest hard-coding it myself I can't do enough PHP to make my own CMS. I've tried Joomla and Drupal and given up. Currently having a go with Wordpress but need to work out a few things like drop-down menus. I'll give C5 a go and see how I get on.

True. I tried Jooma and Drupal because I knew of them; they're the Microsofts' and Apples' of the CMS world. :p

Thanks for your earlier link, it worked a treat. I was used to other CMS' being quite easy to set up and more automatic without needing behind the scenes work.
