Singapore Grand Prix 2010, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 15/19

In my books what he tried in that race is just as bad as what Schumacher did in Jerez(note I have a bias towards Schumacher!)

Yep the start was dangerous and I would have thrown them and Mclaren out for the collusion between teams that followed but for going slower you can't really throw him out even though it's not that sporting but to suggest it was as bad as jerez is laughable. :)

I have no problem with JV going slower but I have a problem with a driver taking part in a race knowing that he will be DSQ so he just sets out to sabotage another drivers race. What both drivers did was completely unsporting.

He didn't know he would be DSQ. He was racing under appeal. He was just playing the system as every team does with the rules. To be fair to him they were only going after him because he ridiculed the sport for going in the direction of narrow car and grooved tyres, for having the balls to speak out.

It took them over 10 years to realise he was right, dumb ****s.

They certainly seem to have finally gotten his point re: slicks, but the cars are still too narrow and the tyres still aren't chunky enough.

kthxbye

Anyone know when betting is open as to just what HRT are upto for this weekend? No driver quotes for the Japanese GP, another driver change perhaps? Taki Inoue, Ralf Schumacher?

Tyres are indeed a big factor when it comes to mechanical grip, but surely the main problem is the sheer amount of aerodynamic down-force which these cars create, rendering a faster car behind, powerless to follow closely.

What would be the effect if they completely got rid of the front and rear wings?

Yep, if they would use those tyres on todays F1 cars they could drive the whole track full speed.

So if they go that route they would need to seriously reduce aerodynamic grip.

I would have thought even that wide 70s rubber would have a lot less grip than modern tyres.

With that huge amount of rubber on wheels stops wouldn't be needed unless enforced which would lead to huge time gaps so no pit lane overtaking thus destroying F1. Bring back refuelling!

The grip would be strong.

Sure, it'd be strong. But they wouldn't be in a whole other universe compared with the cornering speeds we see now - ye cannae change the laws o' physics, cap'n! Still only four patches of rubber in contact with the ground - make them a bit bigger and the cars won't get as aero tight* as they do now, cornering speeds in lower speed corners and braking performance might see a slight increase, the cars will probably move around a bit more and be more recoverable in those situations, but lap times aren't suddenly going to halve.

I know what else I'd like to see regarding the formula that the FIA deliver to us. But I've banged on that drum enough on here over the years, it doesn't need re-stating.

* - sorry, been watching too much NASCAR. Understeering in the wake of dirty air off the back of the car in front.
