Single most expensive component you've bought?

Was a 7800GS back in the day for £140 (they were going for £180 at the time)...will be building a new PC soon so the new card will probably be a 8800GTS/2900XT at 200-300 quid.

£250 on my first 2x cd writer a long, long time ago. Failures were high especially with music cds.

£250 on my second, a 12x scsi cd writer about 7 years ago :)

£150 on a voodoo 2 8mb graphics card back before the invention of the wheel. :D

£500 on a 26 inch monitor/TV (it was bought primarily for use with my PC)

What do I win? :p

Actual part? Probably my 7800GT a little while after they came out at £200.

Normally refuse to pay over £150 for any one part, and thats the only item i've paid for over that amount.

I tell myself it keeps my budget lower but within a reasonable spec...... :D.

I used to have a similar policy, originally I was never going to spend over £100 on a component which was OK for a couple of upgrades but eventually I knew it would change. It was then raised to £200 when I spent around £190 on a P3-650E back in 2000  I actually did quite well with that limit as it remained unbroken for over 5 years until I got the 6800GT!

I've bought countless things for around ~£120-170 though... various HDs over the years, 3 gfx cards, cdrw, a northwood etc.

Nowadays I'm a bit more philosophical and reckon that blowing loads on a gfx card can be worth it if I scrimp on things like RAM (no flashy timings etc).

Nothing that interesting for me, I'm usually late to buy into hardware so it's always lower in price.
Think I paid £165 for a PCI-e 6800GS when they came out, clocked like mad and justified every penny.

£599 for dell 2405 24" monitor

x1900xt-x £378 excluding vat for single most expensive internal component...

£430 on a dell 2407wfp.

no complaints with it whatsoever, except i had to buy a 8800gts 640mb to play at 1920x1200, then i *had* to buy a e4300/mobo to compliment the shiny gfx card.

Haha, I basically did the same thing :D

£520 on a Dell 2407, then the 8800gts, core2duo, ram and motherboard. Apart from the Dell they were all bought in the same week

Most expensive internal part is probably the 8800gts I paid £230 for second hand
Scary to think I paid just under £200 for a X800XL a few years back

£300 on a 17" TFT a number of years ago, though £100 of that came from free vouchers from BT :p

I don't generally spend more than £100-£150 on each component as it's just not worth it IMO.

Still going strong with an Athlon XP and 6800GT :D

September 2004 - FX-53 for £511 YES I know totally STUPID. . . . .! I said it  still being used in another pc but going to sell all the bits off, be lucky to get £80 for it now I reckon if that lol.

If I could turn back the clock, I would have bought a cheaper Opteron chip for no more than £200.

Learn from mistakes . . .

Probably my monitors (£150+£130 AG Neovo)

Cos i'm usually bang for buck. But next big upgrade will beat that.

I think when I be upgrading soon I think the Graphics card will beat those monitors.

£304.00 for my vx 2025 monitor and £280.00 for the bfg graphics card but i still consider both money well spent (normally i just drink it) worst purchase was my motherboard

think my VP171s was 350 when I bought it.

and my vx2025 was just over 300.

not sure exactly what I paid for my Sapphire X1800XT 512MB - it was November 05 though and I got it from here.

Probably my first Voodoo2. I remember I pre-ordered it for 200 quid. More recently my 19" HP LCD monitor cost me $250, although I'm not sure what they go for in the UK.

300 notes on a Gforce3 gpu (back in the day), but after a few weeks, i returned this item, and exchanged it for a slighty inferior Gforce3 ti 200 at half the cost :D

£245 for an iiyama Vision Master Pro 4xx series CRT back in 2003. It was worth every penny :)

Internal: Opteron 165 for £220 early last year.
