Basically our networks class was divided into three groups. Each group would have 1 lab session, then three weeks later they would hand a report in for that lab. As there were three groups, the hand in date was staggered by a week. Now I could not make my scheduled first lab, so I went to the second. The problem is now I've been told I have to hand my work in for my original labs hand-in date as it would be "unfair" otherwise. But how is this unfair? That's a weeks loss I've been given...? I've e-mailed the guy asking for the extension but I really don't think he will comply. I just don't understand how he could think there was an advantage to it.

Basically last year people turned up to which session they could. Most people just went to which they preferred. This time my mates were separated, so I went to their group (there is absolutely NO difference in which session you go to as we didn't use equipment so there wouldn't be any problem that side, as we just listened to a guy speaking).

Well they're not going to extend anytime on that. The reason they have deadlines is so no one complains and they don't have loads of people trying to get away with a little extra time. You might just have to bite the bullet on this one.

So it's not that you couldn't make the first lab, it's that you made the decision not to go. It's your own fault if you then cut the time you have to work on your submissions by a week, not the department.

so you basically didn't go to a group you were assigned to because your mates weren't in it.

I am sorry, how old are you? you are in university, what does it matter what group your mates are in anyway? go to the class you have been assigned to, do the work on time and stop moaning. To miss the first Lab was your fault, don't blame the rules when it was set out clearly in front of you from the start.

This term i've been assigned to different groups for some of the modules than my friends. So what, there is a reason why they split the groups like that, it's not random. We can't change ours unless it clashes with a regular hospital appointment or something, just because you want to change or you can't make it to your job in KFC is not god enough.

Jesus guys, wtf is up with you? There is NO difference in what lab you go to. Why SHOULD I be punished? I have no advantage?

THEY ARE ALL THE SAME LAB.

They are just a repeat.

The lab is repeated three times. That is it.

That is not the point, we have 6 groups for our Interview modules, they are identical but we are NOT allow to go to the one we are not assigned to.

stick to your group.

You aren't being punished. You SHOULD have gone to the first lab, as you were scheduled to. End of.

How do they know that you didnt just go to the first one and are saying that you went to the second just so you can get an extension?

But the fact is NO ONE EVER CARES. Nobody EVER goes to the lab they should, which mostly I DO. So why should I be screwed for doing it once?

Edit: MOT Because he said "oh you weren't here last week..."

well, obviously someone cares as you are about to be late to hand in some work.

This situation arised because of your doing.....you see where I am going? why should the university accommadate you just because you don't feel like going to the first lab?

No. I have to hand my work in a week earlier as I switched over groups. Guys - you are missing the point, if nobody ever did this - I'd probably agree, but the fact it's ALWAYS done is what's annoying.

One week shouldn't make that much of a difference. Half the people on my course wrote their dissertations in 2 weeks, never mind a simple lab report!

lol, I wrote mine in 3 and a half and got 74. :)
