Sixaxis - is it just me?

Got to agree, the pad is really poor on the PS3. The problems I have are:

1). No rumble, really miss this on games like F1.
2). It's much to light.
3). Really poor triggers for R2+L2, they are overly sensitive, sometimes activating when I'm not even pressing them, and because it's a kind of push in trigger rather than a hinged trigger like on the 360 it feels wrong.
4). The analogue stick are to far in on the pad, For my hands the stick on a 360 pad are exactly where my thumbs are naturally, with the PS3 pad I'm having to move my thumbs down and in from there natural resting position meaning I ache after a while.

Hopefully they release a much better official pad with better triggers, positioned sticks, weight, and including rumble. I bet they will stick the the same design as they seem reluctant to move away from the same one they've had since the PS1 days :(

As for the tilt, maybe it's the way it's implemented in the games so far but it is completely useless to me, really adds nothing and isn't a patch on the Wii controllers. The only game that it's half good for is flow which is ok, but nothing special. The issues with the pad aren't affecting my enjoyment of my PS3 so far though, it feels like something I just have to put up with. So far I'm a bit more impressed with the PS3 overall than I was expecting.

I'm now looking at ordering a Thrustmaster Run'N Drive control pad, it may be, uh, "different enough" to avoid the same issues that I'm having with the sixaxis. It still looks less than ideal though, the analogue sticks are just not in a natural position.

While googling, I realised there are tons of sites/forums reporting how they hate the sixaxis too; saying they also feel it is of a low build/manufacturing quality and uncomfortable.

Even though i liek the PS3 pad more than the 360. I have to 100% agree on this point

I'm just wondering, cos I always hear people complain about the sticks on dualshock/sixaxis and I've never had any trouble with them. Do you hold the handle-y bits against your palms? I wrap my last 2 fingers around them and my thumbs just sit in the right place naturally.

Sony shouldn't of copied Microsoft.

If you look at the racing games on the PS2 controller they were fine, X and Square (plus X and Square were analoge) now they are using the shoulder buttons (R2 and L2) just like M$ did with the triggers.

Sounds lame to me guys.

thats sonys fault how ?

in fact the racing game that sony had most to do with making is the F1 game...

the f1 game where you use the X and square for accelerate brake :p

its only motorstorm where you use the r2 +l2 that ive played

the motion works nicely in resistance, when one of the alien guys jump on you, you shake the controller, same when you get set alight lol. It isnt overused and is pretty simple, thats how they should use it.

so your left thumb naturally sites higher than your right thumb ?

Jeremy beadle is that you ?

if so please make another series of beadles about

Outdated controller design that Sony used by default due to the public's response to their 'batterang'.

The Sixaxis works pretty well with Flow. Started playing that last night, before I knew it I'd been playing over an hour and a half.

I personally think that the Xbox360 has the greatest control-pad ever and it was a lot to live upto for Sony, infact so hard that they went back to their tried-and-tested Playstation pad instead of the boomerang.

The problem with this though was that the Playstation pad was floored, this became noticable when Microsoft released the ControllerS for the Microsoft Xbox, they then bettered this with the current Xbox360 control-pad. The better positioning of joysticks, the higher resistance of the sticks, the superior button placement and the wider prongs for bigger hands. These are all things that Sony lack.

However, I was expecting a disaster for the PS3 pad, it was announced that there would be zero rumble, a major disappointment (and still is) and as a result it was very light. On top of this, the triggers were analogue (good) but the bottons were convex rather than concave resulting in greasy/sweaty fingers slipping off. Whilst none of these have affected me in the way many doom-and-gloomers were predicting that it would affect the public they are things that should have been bettered, but I find the pad much more livable than I was expecting.

Triggers are great for accelerating and braking, I don't know why GT is setup to use the right analgue stick as default. With triggers you can progressively brake and accelerate at the same time, can't do that with one stick.

I don't mind the controller that much, I do miss rumble and the triggers aren't designed very well as your fingers slip off to easily. (No I don't have greasy fingers. :p )

Feels nicer than the PS2 one though, just not as good as the 360 controller which is the 1st one that really fits into my hands.

I hate it and find in driving games with all the moving im then letting my fingers slip off the throttle etc

Definately not my cuppa i didnt like the gimmick idea of it and dont like it in practice...

Gamers that give it enough practice probably will get used to it, as for me well you cant teach an old dog new tricks.

i was getting worried when everyone was dissing the ps3 pad being too light or not having rumble, after getting hold of the pad i'm really pleased with it. the trigger buttons are ace
thats the one thing i liked on the xbox pads
the only time i miss rumble is when i play motorstorm

I didnt mind the ps2 pads but endurance gaming was a problem as they did make my hands ache after a heavy stint.

Ive never had that problem with the 360 pads and the only contoller I can think of that I loved as much as thses was the old megadrive arcade stick.

I really doubt I could go over to a PS3 now due to the controller and the lack of vibration which as come a key part of my enjoyment of console games.

I've not seen anything happen in game if i try and tilt in RFOM, would i see anything on screen if i just stood still and moved it or does it only work as mentined above when geting attacked etc.

seems fine for me but i've always prefered the playstation pads.

Sony originally changed the design (not a lot) and people asked for the old style back so they did.

remeber these shots..
