sk3lph's brand new Media/Cinema room

I'm happy to report that the last fibre for the star lighting was secured last night so that is now finished. The flex for the black out blind has also now been fitted too.

Still lots to do, I've now got to fit the sound insulation material between the joists above the cinema room and fill and prep the room for wallpaper and paint. I'm going to have the ceiling professionally sprayed so the fibers are not going to be disturbed which could happen if a paint roller is used. It'll also give a nice even finish.

I've also got another room which also needs to be prepped for decoration which will involve a fair bit of wall paper stripping.

So, unfortunately this means it'll be a few weeks before I'll have anything to take a picture of that's worth posting here. Keep watching this space though as I think it'll be worth the wait.

*cough cough* any updates?

:D Hi,

Not pictorally I'm afraid, it's all been pretty boring stuff, cutting and fitting the first layer of insulation above the ceiling and doing a lot of sanding and filling, plus a few other things on the go that's not connected with the room.

Anyway, all the stuff like carpet, seats and AV kit is all ready to be installed so there will be a bit of a sprint to the finish after the age all this has taken.

The cinema room is now ready to be decorated so I'm going to strip all the wallpaper off the spare room which will be decorated also, so the decorating will start next week, then the carpets will go down, seats installed, blind installed and finally AV kit installed, so I reckon it'll be around the first or second week in June it'll all be done, so there will be a flurry of pictures soon as each stage is completed.

Can't wait. ;)

Hate you!

Love the room though lol.

:D

I've had a bit of a set back.

My decorating skills are poor at best so I found the ideal candidate for the job that came recommended and he is also fully qualified to spray the ceiling and has all the necessary kit for the job. He gave me a favorable quote and I've been waiting a few weeks for him to be available so been prepping the room as much as possible so he can crack on with the job straight away this coming Monday.

He phoned me a couple of days ago to say he has developed eczema on his hands and can't do any work until it clears up which is looking to be about 6 weeks if his previous experience is anything to go by.

So, I'm currently looking for an alternative decorator that fits my requirements, so if you know of a good one in the Preston area then it'd be great to hear from you.

Looks great but christ how long does it take to build one been over a year ain't it Sk3lph LOLOL. Can't imagine it been a 5 minute job. But thought it be quicker then a year when i saw your post thought it been the finished jobbie LOLOL

:), I could try and defend myself with the availability of tradesmen, the complicated lighting and power requirements, the installation times of the Air Conditioning and star lighting or the availability of finances, but I must admit you are correct, it is taking a daft amount of time to finish.

Things are moving again after the time finding another decorator and various other reasons. Work started on Monday and should be finished by the end of next week. I'm away for a couple of weeks due to work starting from Monday, so when I'm back the carpet will go down and finally this project can be finished off.

More pics will follow as the room progresses further.

Looking good so far, wasn't keen on those star lights at first but they look good in your latest pics.

Do you also have a gaming/computer room too?

Thanks for the comments, the new refurbed computer room is next door to this room and there is a picture of it earlier in this thread.

Carpet is down and looking great.

I'm particularly pleased with the platform edge which is a combination of stair nosing and a single carpet edge strip which keeps the carpet away from the lighting nicely.

The seats are arriving tomorrow and the AV kit is being installed on Thursday.

Nearly there at long last.

Thanks as always for the kind comments.

How big is your house if you don't mind me asking?

Don't mind at all, the house was an unremarkable standard size and if I'm honest it's a bit on the small side, especially upstairs. The ace in the deck has been the double garage that a previous owner built that joins onto the main house, which was previously a single garage. This has allowed me to build the new first floor above the garage that has given me the space for this project, so the upstairs feels much roomier now.

Tomorrow is a big day as all the speakers are being installed, together with the screen, black out blind, projector and AV rack with equipment.

More pictures will follow - day off work for me, it'll be like I'm 8 again trying to get some sleep on Christmas eve this evening.

You'll have to get your missus to stand at the back in a Lyons Maid outfit. :D Looks fantastic BTW.

I've already been thinking about getting one of those light up trays that my missus could wear round her neck with choc-ices in. I've also got some Pearl and Dean adverts for that authentic experience.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of the equipment installed and love the way you've done things.

Really makes me want to buy a house with the space to do something similar. So many plans!

Obviously looking forward to the install too, it'll be awesome to finally see what I've been planning for the last 3 years or so.

I've been very lucky in that I've been able to do this, so many things could have scuppered my plans - good luck with yours.

Do you use the double garage or have you converted it? Essentially I'm guessing you have a 2/3 bed house with a decent garage & then a computer/media/office room along with a cinema room. Pretty sweet. :D

The garage is used as a garage - its just too handy to be without and yes two upstairs rooms are now bedrooms. We now have a decent sized double guest room (which I used previously as the computer room), whereas before we had a small box room which was only big enough for a single bed.

The front speakers are now fitted, few more days work to finish the install.

Back to work tomorrow as I can't take any more days off, will post some more pics if there is something of interest, otherwise it'll be pictures of the finished installation.

Tomorrow the ceiling speakers should be fitted as well as the black out blind and the projector moved from downstairs to its new home and hopefully a start will be made on the wiring to the AV amp.

Thanks for all the comments, the soft carpet will help the acoustics and helps give it a luxurious feel, never liked this trend of everyone having hard floors throughout in their houses as I don't think it feels as comfortable.

Agree I need a better camera, but I think the pictures give a pretty good idea what the room is like, I've tried to capture the feel of the room which needs the lighting set to a low level which my camera struggles with a bit.

I should have a working system tonight so some more pics will be incoming assuming I can tear myself away from playing with my new toys.

The back seats are in and I have a working system albeit the blind and the lights need to be incorporated into the control system, I need to hot wire the blind to open and close it. I watched a bit of the Avengers and it's just brilliant although i'm going to do a bit of tweaking to get things just right.

I'll do some more pictures over the weekend once I've tidied the room up a bit, thought I'd do a few before turning in for the night.

Well I've had the chance to have a play with the room and it is indeed awesome. I need to get the installers back, mainly to sort a few issues with the blind and programming the remote for the new Blu-Ray player I bought on Friday as the PS3 I have is too old to supply Dolby Atmos. So I'll take some more pictures once it's all programmed in and fully working and I'll stick on a walkthrough video to finish the thread off.

Thanks again for all the positive vibes in the comments, glad the star lighting seems to of been a good choice.

Just need to paint the door now. :D

Looks epic. When are we all visiting?

The spot light is directly above the door which makes it look white in the picture, it's actually grey, the same colour as the coffer and woodwork.

If I knew you guys personally I'd be more than happy to give you a demo.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere but what are those chairs? They look amazingly comfortable!

The front seats are from the Drinkstuff website and the rear ones are actually found on the Bay at an amazingly good price, there is enough room to recline on those but they dont have the gizmos the front ones have. Not sure I can do links for those here but I'll pm links if you can't find them.
