sk3lph's brand new Media/Cinema room

Finally! An update - felt like I was going cold turkey! Looks good!

(might need to get the ol 56k warning on that post ;) 2x 35mb might be a bit too rich for some mobile folk)

Finally! An update - felt like I was going cold turkey! Looks good!

Same, I looked this thread up yesterday afternoon thinking I must have missed the latest update.

(might need to get the ol 56k warning on that post ;) 2x 35mb might be a bit too rich for some mobile folk)

Not just mobile folk, IE seems to be struggling, even with a decent connection. I know, I know, get Chrome...

I've updated the previous post with you tube vids which looks a bit better.

Sorry for the delay, hoping for a bit of a quicker run to the finish line now.

It does look great, and remember it's not finished yet, you could still change your mind and make it a strip club, I'm thinking something like the Malibu club in Vice City!

Thanks for the comments, to me the strip club option could be a goer, would just need to rearrange the furniture and acquire a couple of temporary poles; make sure the missus is away for a few days and also of course acquire a couple of strippers.

Anyway, my ceiling drilling helper couldn't do a full day on Saturday but we managed to get about 3/4 of the remaining half of the ceiling drilled so I'm now back to fixing the fibers into position with black silicon and Duck Tape so they won't get in the way of the insulation when it's put in between the joists, which is a joy of a job.

Having a meeting with the electrician tomorrow morning to sort out the connection of the wiring for the black out blind, I'll stick a video on here of that working once it's installed.

Probably another couple of weeks before the decorating can start.

I'm happy to report that the last fibre for the star lighting was secured last night so that is now finished. The flex for the black out blind has also now been fitted too.

Still lots to do, I've now got to fit the sound insulation material between the joists above the cinema room and fill and prep the room for wallpaper and paint. I'm going to have the ceiling professionally sprayed so the fibers are not going to be disturbed which could happen if a paint roller is used. It'll also give a nice even finish.

I've also got another room which also needs to be prepped for decoration which will involve a fair bit of wall paper stripping.

So, unfortunately this means it'll be a few weeks before I'll have anything to take a picture of that's worth posting here. Keep watching this space though as I think it'll be worth the wait.

*cough cough* any updates?

:D Hi,

Not pictorally I'm afraid, it's all been pretty boring stuff, cutting and fitting the first layer of insulation above the ceiling and doing a lot of sanding and filling, plus a few other things on the go that's not connected with the room.

Anyway, all the stuff like carpet, seats and AV kit is all ready to be installed so there will be a bit of a sprint to the finish after the age all this has taken.

The cinema room is now ready to be decorated so I'm going to strip all the wallpaper off the spare room which will be decorated also, so the decorating will start next week, then the carpets will go down, seats installed, blind installed and finally AV kit installed, so I reckon it'll be around the first or second week in June it'll all be done, so there will be a flurry of pictures soon as each stage is completed.

Can't wait. ;)

Hate you!

Love the room though lol.

:D

I've had a bit of a set back.

My decorating skills are poor at best so I found the ideal candidate for the job that came recommended and he is also fully qualified to spray the ceiling and has all the necessary kit for the job. He gave me a favorable quote and I've been waiting a few weeks for him to be available so been prepping the room as much as possible so he can crack on with the job straight away this coming Monday.

He phoned me a couple of days ago to say he has developed eczema on his hands and can't do any work until it clears up which is looking to be about 6 weeks if his previous experience is anything to go by.

So, I'm currently looking for an alternative decorator that fits my requirements, so if you know of a good one in the Preston area then it'd be great to hear from you.

Looks great but christ how long does it take to build one been over a year ain't it Sk3lph LOLOL. Can't imagine it been a 5 minute job. But thought it be quicker then a year when i saw your post thought it been the finished jobbie LOLOL

:), I could try and defend myself with the availability of tradesmen, the complicated lighting and power requirements, the installation times of the Air Conditioning and star lighting or the availability of finances, but I must admit you are correct, it is taking a daft amount of time to finish.

I suppose best things come to those that wait. Its always best not to rush the job Especially when big money is been spent doing it aslong as your happy with the end result then everyone's a winner :)

Things are moving again after the time finding another decorator and various other reasons. Work started on Monday and should be finished by the end of next week. I'm away for a couple of weeks due to work starting from Monday, so when I'm back the carpet will go down and finally this project can be finished off.

More pics will follow as the room progresses further.

Looking good so far, wasn't keen on those star lights at first but they look good in your latest pics.

Do you also have a gaming/computer room too?

Thanks for the comments, the new refurbed computer room is next door to this room and there is a picture of it earlier in this thread.
