Skegness

Ahhh Skegness.

The good points.

Gorgeous Beach.

The bad points.

Its a English seaside town that caters for people live in council houses and probably swindle food banks. The entire place needs carpet bombing ideally on a hot bank-holiday weekend.

One more plus point is Gibraltar point nature reserve. Nothing there apart from a wildlife trust visitor center, lovely is short walks.

Tell me about it, I have a stag do there soon. Is it the dump in imagine it is!

Well I wouldn't want to be rude and call it a 'dump' - it isn't a bad place, it wasn't untidy or anything when I went there on a ridiculously cheap holiday weekend, it was pretty basic though - a seaside resort from another era (there is a lap dancing club though if you're going as a stag group, I was there in a mixed group including couples so that sort of thing wasn't on the cards).

The beach was an unremarkable standard British beach, there was some funfair stuff, crazy golf and some standard seaside shops. Some fairly unremarkable bars etc... We had a fun weekend, mostly just because of the group I was with.

The train journey there was entertaining though just because of the specimens of humans on board - think 'bar out of Star Wars' - lots of obesity, poverty, inbreeding and foetal alcohol syndrome crammed into the same carriage... those are the people you'll be sharing the beach with - you definitely don't need to worry about being 'beach body ready' as next to them you'll already be a relative Adonis.

I used to love Skeggy as a child and back in the day when arcade gaming was superior on any level to anything available at home.

I went there a couple of years ago now before I left the UK to see a friend, and it was thoroughly depressing.

A rundown seaside town makes me feel nothing but low.

Three places to avoid in Lincolnshire: Skeg, Newtoft, and Boston.

There is nothing wrong with Boston we are multicultural!

LOL

Thanks for the new sig.

I was the same as the last time we went to Butlins was in the early 90's when I was a kid. Took my daughter a couple of years back and it was fantastic. Red coats top notch, entertainment good and the food was tastey. I have stayed in 5 star hotels which have been a lot worse. Only negative is whether you get decent weather or not but as a family holiday you would be pleasantly surprised.

No its much worse.
Run down tat shops, pee smelling pubs accentuated by a different fish and chip shop for every living human being on earth.
Slightly down the road you have Ingolmells, which has a bit of a fun park thing and is surrounded by caravan sites, Butlins and a market where there is nothing you want at over inflated prices.

On the plus I found the roads out of both Skegness and Ingoldmells to be of the highest quality and had quite a pleasurable experience when I used them.

Skeg has had a lot of money spent on it over the last few years - cleaned up the beach etc.

We take the kids/dogs there for the day every once and a while and it's fine. Buuuuuut, for a stag do/night out? **** no!

There must be somewhere else closer/better surely? Nottingham? London? (train from Grantham is around an hour!)

80's weekender, that'll be Butlins then. You wont be able to leave the camp, they've got watchtowers/searchlights/alsatians etc

The only good thing about skegness is butlins. I live 40 mins from skegness and would rather drive all the way to the other side of the mouth and go to Hunstanton.

Although I have never been on a night out can be rather entertaining from what I have heard. That was ten years ago so no idea what it is like now.

Yeah I know what you mean. Live not far but would rather go to Cornwall myself!
It's a dive

Spaldonian here.

Back in my day the only reason people from Spalding used to go to Boston was to score a drug deal or to head to A&E at the Pilgrim.

I remember one school trip there to the 'Stump'......./shudder.

I have worked in Spalding for ten years and still wouldn't live there. ;)
