Just skipped a red light by mistake. It was dark, and it was a temporary lights system for road works. I was coming back from the Hospital, as my mum was admitted last night, and I wasn’t concentrating correctly. By the time I’d seen the light it was too late.

The guy in the car waiting to go as his side was green looked very angry. I didn’t skip on purpose, but I feel bad, as I’ve looked like a bad driver and I don’t like cutting or upsetting other drivers.

I never had the chance to put my hand up and say sorry, it all happened, and he just zoomed past me flashing his lights blinding me, understandable really. Hmm.. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been driving. Oh well. No harm done, other then pride and coming off as an arse to another driver.

I always got so paranoid when i went through following traffic and it just turned to red, then i went to Manchester and it seems in the city, Red means Green !

No you shouldn't of been driving. You must drive perfect at all times, like an android.

Mistakes like these are unacceptable, cut your driving license in half.

Scum.

Are you joking with me, or do you think for sure as my mind was wondering a little I shouldn't have been driving? It did wake me up though, and afterwards I was back to the normal sharp looking out etc driving we need to adhere to..

Way to go belittling driving through a red traffic light.

There are many irritating traffic laws, speed limits are one of these but red lights?

lol. do you have to ask ?

Everyone makes mistakes even people who have been driving for eons, sure those mistakes won't lead to anything, they just stick in your mind for a bit, get over it, nothing happened and everyone is a bit wiser for the next time to avoid it happening again.

The other day I saw my dad indicate left and go right....see ? he has trained in previous years as a driving instructor too and has been driving for 25 odd years!

Meh, it happens.

Small hint of sarcasm :p

I'm pretty sure I heard from a mate that worked at a police station (clerical not actual officer) that temporary signals are non-enforceable, although without actually finding out for sure I wouldn't be inclined to take it as gospell.

Secondly, you probably weren't in the best mental state to be driving. I live VERY close to a hospital, and one night when coming home (around 3am) I was passing the exit to the hospital (30mph limit, doing 33~ indicated) and a woman pulled out literally as my front bumper got to the junction, at this point, now half way past her, she NAILS it (still in first evidently) and revlimiters the car. I ended up stopping in front of her and getting her to stop, turns out her sister had just died, I felt very uneasy and rather nasty at the time, but I felt obliged to take the keys and ring the police, because no way she should have been on the road in that state!

Nothing serious happened, you acknowledge that you made a mistake (who hasnt) and you'll probably be more cautious in future because of it.

It's all good :)

Temp lights are enforcable in law but your mistake isnt nearly as serious as driving right through a box junction, the other guy obviously saw you coming. I drove through a yellow 1 week after passing with a copper right behind me :o , he spent the next 45 minutes trying to convince his collegues I was a heroin smoking burglar trying to escape when I just didnt see him.

I find red lights in the middle of the night at junctions with clear visibility really irritating and pointless but I usually just mess with the radio or check out the shop windows. Its the yellows which I falter on

Kind of you, Id be a tad scared she might be armed and insane :/ Kind thing to do.

Dont worry about it mate, we all mess up at some point and although its not fun upsetting decent drivers it happens!

I've driven through quite a few red traffic lights in my time...and I've only been driving about a year and a half :p Don't worry about it, just aim for more toddlers next time

a friend of mine was telling me how last night he was int the middle of three lanes at a crossroads stopped at the lights, with a car to the left of him. a police car pulls up behind this other car (no blue lights or anything) the lights are still read and this guys just jumps the lights! obviously the blues come on and he pulls over straight away. so you see you coulda done a lot worse.

I REALLY HATE red light jumpers... As you said it was an accident... But every day on the way to and from work i see several ppl doing it... Not just amber gambler but several seconds after my lights have changed... Funny thing is that if you blast your horn and flash your lights they look at you as if to say "What have i done wrong?" I even had one asian woman in a BMW almost hit me as my lights had changed for a good couple of seconds and i was pulling off and she still came throygh... I have her a blast and a flash and she gave me v's... i was soooo annoyed that i followed her all the way to town and was side by side with her at some lights... I also noticed she had kids in her car so i wound down my window and told her she should be ashamed driving like that with kids in the car... She just sheepishly pulled away...

I have seen several bad accidents caused by red light jumpers and at 1 two ppl were killed just cause some pratt in his BMW was late to pick his missus up from work...

I would like to see more red light jump cameras and far more enforcement and less speeding ones... 1st time you get a warning then 2nd time a £30 fine and if there is a 3rd time £100 fine and 3 points... after that a court apperance... IDIOTS!!!

I have been sat at junctions next to coppers in thier cars when ppl jumped the lights... They are more interested in checking out if my exhaust is too loud... Its not...

We've all done it by accident, I imagine. I'll even admit to doing it on purpose once. I was driving home at 5am on Boxing Day heading through Dudley and was held up on a roundabout by a light. You have total visibility of the roundabout and all its entrances/exits, nobody was around so I carried on.

yeah I've done it now and again, but ONLY late at night AND with good visibility AND empty roads, I get frustrated that I'm sitting there for no good reason. esp at traffic light ones, they take aaagggggeeeessss to change.

in manchester amber means "accelerate widly" and red means "you have three seconds left to sneak through before you should stop"

oh, and to the O.P. don't worry about it, we've all skipped a red light by mistake once (or twice). and those who say they haven't, well they just never noticed ;)
