skittles vodka

I've just given this a go! I emptied a bag of skittles into the bottle below and left it a few days until they dissolved. I spent about half an hour ripping up tea bags and using them to filter the skittle residue off.
I've had a little taste (as you can see) but the skittle flavour isn't very strong. Should I stick in another couple of bags?

It's 6 normal sized bags to a litre... so yeh 5 more bags :p. I have a nice fine sieve for the gunk, but teabags are a good idea too. Clean muslin might work too.

I find half a can of red bull added to the concoction helps dispel the remaining alcohol taste. I especially like the lime vodka you can make with the displaced vodka and left over green skittles :)

Oakey doke, that explains that then. I'm off to Tesco.

I like the alcohol taste btw :p

Then just drink the vodka :p lol It's an expensive process but it's certainly one of the best drinks I've tried, personally i hate the taste and burning sensation of alcohol, so I strive to cover it up.

I'm debating whether or not to believe the stories I've heard of extra strong mints in vodka.

I heard the other day that if you put it all in the dish washer then it all gets totally dissolved with no bits. Anyone fancy trying it?

Then all your plates and glasses are infused with skittle flavoured alcohol... I like it!

Fox's Glacier mint vodka - kaiowas posted earlier how to make it. Is yummy!!! Unless you have heard bad stories?

The most important thing is to drink it stone cold, preferably straight from the freezer.

Basically I think any kind of boiled sweet can be dissolved in vodka. I did one a few months ago with Campino style sweets - its pink and yummy. We also did one with Fox's aniseed sweets which was very very strange!

I can vouch for that. Since I'm the dishwasher, when I put it all into me it dissolves (my stomach lining) and doesn't come out in bits....it comes out more like a liquid.

I'll get my coat.

Mmm just read the instructions, any idea how many mints? just one packet? Sounds interesting though, might give it a go.

6 packets? I only used 4, and it was syrupy enough for me!

Well if you're gonna wreck your liver you may as well get diabetes at the same time! I found 6 packets just right... *shrugs* guess you just gotta experiment.

We use one packet, minus the ones we nibble while we are making it :p Remember not to use a full bottle of vodka ;)

**bump a dead thread** Spend_day is making some of this ready for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of september... we may try some test batches beforehand.... ;)

Holy Thread revival Batman!

I thought this thread of mine was long gone, but my litre of skittles vodka has been settling for about a month or so. It seems to make it taste better, my original batch i had half right after it was done and the rest after about a month, and it seemed to be less harsh after the time had passed, so with this batch (70ml vodka, 720g skittles) which is about a litre now, ive been leaving it for after exams. I will try and get a good picture up later.

so delta (or anybody thats had a success with this) , fancy making a good detailed guide for us novices!

Well, this is what i have done to make 1 litre of skittles vodka:

Ingredients:
70ml of vodka, doent need to be great
900g of skittles, i used 5 bags of 180g

You will need:
Glass bottle with over 1 litre capacity
big bowl
sieve or a spoon
funnel

Instructions:
1. Pour all the vodka into the large glass bottle.
2. Empty all the skittles into the bowl.
3. Take out all of the green skittles (they make it go horrible)
4. Pour the rest of the skittles into the bottle with the vodka. should be about 720g left in the bowl.
5. screw up the bottle really tightly.
6. Leave until the skittles have completely dissolved.
7. You may shake the bottle to help the skittles dissolve, whortens making time by a while.
8. Once all the skittles have dissolved you will have a thick layer of 'scum' on the top of the liquid. It looks like it is lots of little bits, looks cool when you shake it up and watch it go back to the top. This scum is the saturated vegetable fat that was in the skittles.
9. Pour the contents of the bottle into the large bowl through the sieve (if you have one).
10. If you dont have a sieve then use a spoon to skim off the top layer os scum until you are happy with the result.
11. Wash out the bottle.
12. Pour the contents of the bowl back ito the bottle.

This is now skittles vodka.

It will taste better the longer you leave it in the bottle, but is still nice without leaving it.

if i cant get hold of an empty litre bottle. would it be ok to buy a litre of vodka and just measure out the amounts needed and use that bottle? and as for the leaving it longer part, do you leave it longer with all the scum in it or seive it first then leave it for a while?

You know like you said that the longer you leave it, the better it tastes....Do you leave it before or after sieving the fat off the top?
