Skoda Superb replacement?

the absence of towing option on the manual skoda can be because they think the drivetrain/clutch wouldn't be up to it - long term reliability.
bmw (or rejected 508) auto box should be a smoother towing experience than dsg.

AFAIK it was just that one combo, the 1.5 auto and the other manuals were all fine for towing.

When speccing the towbar option from factory I'm sure it added a bigger radiator and some sensory affair for the rear as well.
Suppose it would stop them going bonkers whilst your towing something haha

Moved from my Superb after 7 years to a Tarraco Xcellence and then a Kodiaq.

Much prefer the SUV type vehicle now.

what do you like about it? Don’t totally get the appeal of SUVs but there obviously is something as most seem to love them.

Easier to get in and out, especially for the inlaws, higher driving position, both SUV's were 7 seaters - so loads of room, feels like a tank/safer (without driving like one!)

I was hesitant at first, but now i would rather not go back. I just find the suv a more pleasurable drive.

Last year the first Volvo V90's started coming out of corporate leases. I picked up a nice V90 R-type (no extra VED) with 21k miles for £20,500 from Volvo. Very nice car full of lots of mod cons, big car loads of room can't imagine it would struggle towing a caravan. Adaptive cruise control pilot assist, auto with semi auto flapper things. Best purchase I've made in years. Love it.

I'm looking at new cars and test drove a Kodiaq to see if I was missing something by not looking at SUVs. Even compared to a non sporty (ie not the VRS) Octavia/Superb estate, it definitely feels like you're driving a much larger and more wallowy car and it confirmed I don't want an SUV.

I came from the Superb TSI to the Kodiaq Sportline. The Superb drove like a tank, the Sportline does not.

I'm by no means saying an SUV is faster than regular roadcars, but if you want comfort and a more pragmatic vehicle, than an SUV is worth a look in.

I also wasn't initially impressed, it took me a week or so to get used to it and appreciate it. Each to their own.

The Kodiaq was comfortable and adequately fast, it was the cornering that ruled it out for me. It didn't offer anything for me that an estate doesn't and I prefer the drive of the estate. As you say, each to their own :)

I am looking for something smaller than the Superb and must be auto. Must be able to capably tow my van. Need not be diesel, not restricted to 2.0L. No older than 2016. Budget is £20K.

Still looking. Still thinking 3 series touring. Must be auto and probably a 320 xdrive. Wondering if it could be petrol? I’ve only ever towed with a diesel in the 29 years since I passed my test! Are petrols ok at towing?

Sure, petrol direct injection turbos have plenty of torque generally at or around maximum at 1500rpm, not like naturally aspirated petrols of old. 8 speed torque converter gearbox will also help.
