Skoda

Thanks chap :)

lordrobs, glad i'm not the only one suffering that problem. The front bumper is mullered underneath from reversing on to my driveway, luckily nothing that can be seen but it means reversing on to the driveway at a ridiculous angle just to avoid it scraping! Not sure i will be able to choose a new suspension set up for that reason :(

Mine catches in the middle more so than the outside edges.

Some really, really horrible stuff on their website. I quite like the rear diffuser though..

First part replacement to add to the list.. thermostat (i think).

Also bought myself a VCDS cable, going to run the Lite version to start with and see how i get on with it :)

Haven't got the CEL on at the moment.

Car runs fine but it does seem a bit thirstier, after reading up on it that seems to be one of the symptoms of a nackered stat as well. Haven't got a wierd temp gauge as such, just reads much lower than normal (70-80 instead of 90).

Ordered a ECP Thermostat (Circoli I think). Briskoda members said stay away from the GSF one (think it was Liverpool-Lad actually!).

Problem for me is ordering genuine parts is a 20mile drive away to collect, having said that, if this one fails prematurely then I won't hesitate to order genuine.

Ok, after a quick thread on Briskoda regarding Thermostats and CTS's along with info from owners on here, i decided to first try replacing the thermostat to see if that cured my temperature problem (running at 75-80 instead of 90).

Getting to the thermostat wasn't too bad, i removed the upper and lower engine covers and loosened/moved the plate holding the N249 etc out of the way. Once that was done i removed the hose from the thermostat housing. This is where it got tricky. I got the top 10mm bolt out no problem at all, the bottom one proved to be a little more difficult. After much fiddling and swearing i managed to get the lower bolt loose (and then drop it - doh!). Once that was done i replaced the thermostat and seal, put the housing back on and replaced everything in reverse order.

A quick top up with some fresh Anti-freeze and water and a good run and all is well again. Temp is holding at 90 exactly.

Certainly a job i would do again :)

Going by someones guide/pictures it looked quite easy. Then i started the job and realised the pictures lied... :D

Oow how much are they?

Looking at the black box on your rocker cover i'm assuming you haven't done the N249 bypass?

Yeah i'll have one!

My Y breather is a silicone one as well. I need to replace the pipe that follows that down to the front of the engine block as its split in two places (currently taped up with insulation tape!)

That one!

Looking into tuning options for after i get married (April).

I was originally looking at a Stage 1 remap, however i am now considering...

Stage 2
Enlarged DP & Sports Cat
Exhaust System
Silicone TIP

I've also read that i will need a 4bar FPR? Already got the Intercooler which is the most expensive thing (for me, anyway) so it seems daft not to save up a bit extra and do it properly.

Thats one thing i didn't consider.

I'm not really that clued up on the whole '"Stage" thing... done a lot of reading up on it all but as per usual, peoples opinions/experiences vary massively.

TBH on my car which is standard other than a rear anti roll bar my generic stage 1 Revo map is plenty for the car.

I dabbled with the idea of going to stage 2 but decided that it was probably too much for the rest of the package.

The biggest expense does seem to be the IC. I thought seeing as i had that, Stage 2 wouldn't exactly be hugely expensive.

Will have to have an ask about on Briskoda.

My other option is to get a stage 1, gradually fit the bits required for stage 2 and then get the stage 2 upgrade from the same tuner (R-Tech for example).

Its all a bit confusing at the moment, i definately want a remap, just don't know how far i want to take it. Theres a lot more to it than with previous cars i've owned (never really had any desire to tune those either except for the usual exhaust etc!).

Liverpool-Lad, pop me a message across on briskoda, i've tried messaging you but it won't send.. got something for you regarding that FK Exhaust System as well...

Update:

Old Exhaust centre section bracket has snapped (common thing). I was deliberating whether to have it welded up, replace just the centre section or buy a whole new system.

A recent thread on Briskoda lead me to an exhaust which had been discontinued and the remaining systems being sold off cheap. It was originally £150, i was hesitant and the price went up to £165. I decided £165 for a Cat-Back exhaust system was a bit of a no-brainer really, even if it was for re-sale at a higher price.

After the currency conversion it actually worked out to £160 delivered, not bad at all.

Quality looks nice. Its a shame the tail pipes are so long but thats how the back boxes are designed, theres no hangers at the very back of the car like others have...

After a quick wash and wipe down (Astonish spray N Shine)

FK Exhaust was a fail. Wouldn't fit correctly without having to modify things and thats not good for a "direct fit" exhaust.

Sent it back and ordered a Jetex Cat Back (Non-Resonated) from Venom Motorsport instead.

Fits well, also put a new front mount on for the back box, did the rear "Y" rubber too but no pics...

Also changed the Pollen Filter as the interior was getting a bit condensated in the mornings...

Put the Forge 007P on the right way round (was fitted in reverse by the previous owner) as the metallic "chingggg" noise was annoying. Its a lot quieter now but i encountered a problem with the Vac line being kinked when the engine cover is re-fitted. A lot of people cut the engine cover but i didn't want to do that. "Fixed" it for now with a (bodge) cable tie but i'm hoping when i put a new TIP on it will cure the problem. I've also been told on Briskoda that Forge sell a 90 degree adapter so will look into that.
