What does "sporty" mean anyway? It's a b******t marketing term!

I judge a car on it's merits, which is probably why I own a Fabia vRS. Given a nice windfall I'd be down the local dealer, ordering an Octy vRS estate as soon as the cheque cleared.

But the Octavia vRS is a sportier car than the Superb, it has a body kit, massive black alloys, sports seats, a (in general) bigger engine.

Other than the marketing department telling you that stick on tat, massive alloys and bolstered seats are "sporty" how exactly do they prepare you for this "sport"? It's not like you can take an Octy vRS off the forecourt and enter the BTCC with it where an 1.4 TSI with high profile tyres is unsuitable.

Taking the concept of the vRS back to basics it's grand touring spec targeted at driving enthusiasts. And that's a good thing.

The Mk3 estate VRS TDI handles really well and the engine is decent enough.

nearly 2 years on with mine and can't fault it. 25k mileage, enough poke to keep me happy, average above 50mpg in the diesel with roofbars on.

Wife, dog, 2 kids, 2 bikes on the roof and it carries everyone perfectly happy.

Great car - wouldn't hesitate to get another.

0% apr, free servicing etc all helped seal the deal. Seems like a lot less than 2 years ago.:D

It's the new one. The Superb estate is £1490 and (23x) £179 a month compared to £1990 and (23x) £229 for the VRS Estate.

Test driven a mk2 estate (petrol) and liked it. Think it's a great all rounder.

The Simpsons Skoda deal is £1990 and 23x £199 for the Octavia estate.

Hey Skeeter,

What have you had in the way of paperwork regarding your Octavia lease?

I've paid a £500 deposit and have a receipt for that against the balance of the car (£20-odd K) but nothing to confirm the lease agreement or T's & C's. Having not leased before (or purchased from a dealer), unsure if this is standard at this stage? I've assumed the above deposit and receipt was to purely get an order on the system so the car is built ASAP, as the dealer had to sort out matching the Simpsons deal with Skoda HQ.

That was standard for me 2 years ago - paid deposit - get the car ordered and sort out the rest on, or just before delivery.

I've paid nothing.

You won't get all the T&Cs etc until the car arrives. At that point you will need to prove your address and things with IDs and then sign contracts and agree to the lease and setup payments. Untill then its just a car being ordered to be delivered to a garage.

The £500 deposit is a bit of a con. Its not required at all and is likely just the dealer covering their back to make sure you actually want the car, and they aren't stuck with a new car and you then decide to bail. However, given that I was told that dealers are not allowed to order vRS stock, and can only order customer cars, and they are rare as hell, I don't think being stuck with an Octavia vRS would really be an issue. There wasn't even a hint or suggestion of paying any deposit when I ordered mine, the guy simply took all my details for the credit check, entered them there and then, confirmed it was ok and placed the order. 2 days later I was emailed a copy of the confirmation from Skoda that the order had been accepted with order number etc, and the garage will call me when its ready.

I'm assuming your reciept is from the dealer and not from Skoda Finance? If so, make sure you keep it and take it back with you when collecting. The way my lease is working (I assume the same for everyone) is Skoda Finance will take the standard deposit of about £2300, and the dealer will be giving me a cheque for £800 to net off to them matching the Simpsons £1490 deposit. You will need to ensure the same happens with you, plus they also remove the £500 too.

Oh and Lol at the Simpsons deal going up! I've been using that to get dealers to match for a while, it looks like I caught it just in time as it was definately still £1490/£199m on Saturday!

Yeah the one in Guildford had a TDI DSG Demo and a couple second hand for sale too. But they aren't allowed to place any more orders for any to have as stock or for more demos. From the sounds of it they have got pretty popular recently and Skoda are keen to not increase the built time further than 12 weeks by filling the queue up with dealer orders.

You can see why when the competition such as Kia and things can turn you a new car round in a week as they have stock piled up at the docks. 12 weeks is probably already putting some people off (it made me think twice).

Still got that fabia?! :O

I'm in the process of getting a settlement figure for the impreza and am very close to signing off an order for a rallye green TSI DSG estate.

:D

Now have a unconfirmed build date of week 47. That's 3 months after my date of order. How have you guys got on?

I went for a TDI vRS in Red (Hatchback though, couldnt bring myself to get an estate yet.)

Ordered mid-july, should be built this week and shipped over in the next 4-5 weeks. Very excited :D

Order placed

2.0 TSI DSG Estate in rallye green
canton upgrade
front parking sensors (as i'm allowing the other half to drive it)
sunset glass
winter pack etc....

can't wait.. but it is going to be a long 3 months.

as a side thought - SERIOUSLY consider the spare wheel kit etc.

I was annoyed yesterday when I got a 4 inch screw/bolt through my rear Goodyear tyre. completely deflated, too big a hole to use the gunk to fill it.

Because I drove around 6 miles to get off the motorway , the tyre was wrecked. Had to wait 40 mins to get AA out, then had to take wheel off, drive 30 mins to nearest garage that had 225/40 R18 tyre, wait for it to be done and drive 30 mins back to my car in the AA van.

Wasted 2.5 hours for what should be a 5 min job to change wheels and carry on. I seriously wish manufactuers would stop skimping on costs and supply a proper full size wheel in the boot.
