We got a letter yesterday from Sky saying that anyone with a broadband connection and sky subscription can now access anytime +. All you have to do is connect your Sky box upto your router and activate the package online.

My issue is that our Sky box is downstairs and the BB connection is in the office upstairs. I use a Netgear WN604 Wireless-N 150 Access Point which can operated in bridge mode and I wondered if it would be possible to get a second and plug the Sky box into that down stairs.

Any issues with this method ? will WIFI bandwidth be sufficient ?

Wifi works fine, bandwidth shouldn't be an issue.

The HD box requires a connection to the Ethernet port on the HD box amd the only device that works via the HD box itself is the official sky adaptor. You will need to configure the N150 before connecting it to the HD box.

What i was planning to do was set the two WN604's up in bridge mode with one upstairs and one downstairs, then plug the HD box into one of the RJ45 sockets on the downstairs AP.

Would Sky specific configuration be needed on the downstairs AP ?

Im trying to do something very similar with a TP link Wa630RE range extended which is set to access mode.. but not having much luck yet as I can't even get it to work when a device is plugged into its only ethernet port at the back so am not doing very well atm :D

Youre proabably doing something very similar, surely just setting the range extended to access point mode is all you need to do, then plug the hd box into the back of the range extender?

Set mine up the other day, luckily the router is right next to the tv so just plugged the box into an ethernet port. Enjoying it so far. The DL's are v quick.

As above sky have an accessory for wireless it would probably be the best option for you.

But using the routers in bridged mode shouldnt be a problem either. As long as the router downstairs is setup properly its just plug and play for the sky box. if you have any other OLD routers around their is a way on some models to install a cusom firmware http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices could be worth a shot this would save some pennies from buying another router

I don't think that access point mode works like that.

Access point mode is a wired to wireless solution where you would need to plug an ethernet cable coming from your router for it to share the network wirelessly.

Range extender mode is a wireless to wireless solution and it might allow the ethernet port to use the network but I've never tried it. I doubt it'll work to be honest.

Just use homeplugs. Wireless is naff, especially for streaming HD content.

And yes it's only for HD boxes - however not all HD boxes are compatable.

I'm going to install a couple of cat5e sockets, it was cheaper than buying another AP and will be a better connection also.

If the HD box isn't compatible is this simply because it hasn't got an Ethernet port? Mine has an Ethernet port but I can't remember who the manufacturer is.

I have this but it doesn't work on my second HD box, can I use anytime+ on 2 boxes ? I have multiroom and the HD pack etc

If you have a thompson box, try phoning up Sky and asking why it doesnt work, I did and got a swap out for free, nice 1TB box with latest hardware, much quicker than the old version.
