I called them as this is something which really interests me. You need the HD box, but not the subscription, so it's either £215 for a standalone box (lol !) or pay the £90 for a years subscription to HD. I think I'll just source a secondhand HD box and avoid giving them any more of my money, bunch of crooks!
 
Why are they crooks? They give you a free box by making you take the HD subscription for 12 months.

If you're getting your own box don't get a Thomson as they're not compatible.
