It makes support a lot better for the agents and as such provides more of a chance for them to get the problem solved.

Quite the inverse in a good number of cases - you wipe out the one easy way of eliminating a broken router.

dont remember saying I worked there :p

And remember theres 3 levels of support for issues got to keep things easy as possible for first tier, hence why having one standard piece of equiptment for all in my opinion is a good idea, trust me im not siding with sky as it has been proven it doesnt quite work as easy as that.

Hindsight is always a lovely thing though.

What router do SKY supply? I popped round a mates earlier who has the max service and it looks similar to a DG834G? Simply an observation from a distance and I know there are many models that look the same ;)

The freedom of choice is the highest right we have and as theres no acceptable reason for such a practice its wrong by default, you can side with sky all you want but nothing you've said has made it any more acceptable in a free market, sky are no exception and they should abide by fair practices, you got to remember companies are not individuals (even though strangely they are allowed some of the same rights) and they often lack the same moral judgement that an individual has, so no its not ok for them to do what they please.

You, as the individual, have the freedom to not choose sky as an ISP. If you do though, you have to accept that you have to use the router they supply. Nothing immoral about that. It's part of their term's and conditions.

Infact as far as business decisions go, it's a bloody good one which makes sense. Dishing out the same router means that their "support monkeys" only have to deal with / get to grips with the one router. Imagine how much time and money they would waste if they had to support someone that had bought the open source router...would you expect sky to write they software for it, for them? I think not.

To me, you sound like the kind of person that would turn round and go "Omg it's unfair...why should I have to use my sky box??Let me use my NTL box to recieve sky!!!" just to be different!

EDIT: And what's your problem with the router they supply? It's a bloody good one!

Blah Blah Blah

What you've said still doesn't make artificially limiting the box right though does it? No im not the sort you describe, i just know what's right and wrong and sky are playing their morally questionable monopoly cards in a market that has ran fine and fair in the past, now sky has come along it could give others the same bad ideas etc, its like the isp's who started introduction throttling and caps and look what we have now, you seem to be the sort that if a rule or law is written you believe it instantly becomes ok, you are quite mistaken.

At the end of the day it hurts no one to have the choice and sky could even save some money by not giving away the router and perhaps giving a free month away instead, the advanced users have the knowledge to sort their own problems and the average user can happily use skys box, all i ask is to have the choice and sky won't be bothered by me when it comes to router problems. :)

Well you can still have the choice. Nothing stopping you using your own router, even though the DG834 is a fantastic and stable router in itself. :)
