Hi guys,

Will my router update the EPG if it's just connected straight to my router rather than to the actual telephone line?

I want to take advantage of the new Sky+ remote control function on my iPad but I have EPG 47.0 instead of 49.0.

I unplugged the sky box from my telephone line years ago as it was affecting my Internet speeds. I just have the box connected to the router now.

I believe the updates are done over the air so network or phone line are not required. However not all the Sky+HD boxes can have the new EPG yet :(
 
Also doing a forced download won't help as the bleeding edge software isn't uploaded until some months after the full roll-out.
 
So how do I know if I can get it and if so how do I get it? I have little knowledge of the iPad app so had better check that out too!
 
According to Sky they say...

When will I get the new Sky Guide?
The new Sky Guide will be available to customers with compatible Sky+HD boxes, and will be gradually rolled out over a period of months starting this summer.


During the first phase of the roll out the DRX890 and DRX895 Sky+HD boxes will be updated and then the remainder of the boxes: Samsung, Pace and DRX780 will be updated later in the year.


If you have a compatible box then you will be notified by email that your box will be updated. Please make sure that we have an email address registered to your account, to do this please go the My Details page in the Profile & Settings section of My Sky.


Sky+HD boxes manufactured by Thomson will not be updated. The new Sky Guide is only available on certain boxes as only Sky+HD boxes have the power and capabilities to run the new software. Older Sky+ boxes are not optimised for software updates and services like Anytime+.


If you don’t have a compatible box or have another Sky digibox and would like the new Sky Guide, then please upgrade to a new box in the Shop section of sky.com.


If you currently have a compatible Sky+HD box, but don’t have the latest Sky Guide, please be patient, the update is rolled out gradually in phases to ensure the best customer experience so it will be downloaded to your box over the next few months.

Not quite sure how you come to his conclusion. I did a forced EPG update on my skybox and and the new iPad app is running fine on my iPad.
 
I brought a 2nd hand Sky HD box few days back and expected the new software update after I reset the box through the Services menu but it didn't. Until I force updated the box, after 20mins it was updated with the new EPG.

How do you Force update the Box????
 
Just tried forcing an update on my Samsung box - it said it was doing an update and it would take 10 mins. I left it and came back well before 10 mins was up, it had finished doing whatever it was doing but no new EPG here.
 
Sigh, THE GUIDE IS NOT AVAILABLE ON ANY BOX OTHER THAN THE AMSTRAD 890 OR 895 1TB BOX.

That is, ANY box made by Pace, Samsung or older Amstrad boxes CANNOT get the guide by forced update at the moment as it has not been released yet. You can do as many updates as you like but it won't happen.

The guide will NEVER be available on any Thomson box.
