My brothers computer has died on him and is installing his internet on another computer.

Problem is he has lost his install disk for the router.

This asks him for a password when he connects.

He hasnt changed it, so it will be the default one.

Is this something like: Username; SKY password: serial number or something.

Can it be installed without the disk?

thanks

There's nothing to install. There's also most likely no reason to connect to the router either - just plug and play.

If you do need to connect for whatever reason, a quick google shows the default username is 'admin', and the default password is 'sky'

Thanks.

I thought the username was something like that.

He thinks its something to do with inputting the serial number on the router?

Does he have to reset it or something?

Why?

The router's configured with an inbuilt username/password for the ADSL2. Plugging it into a phone line will result in it connecting to the internet.

DHCP is setup by default - just plug in a PC, and the internet works. The only thing worth configuring on the router setup page is a WPA key for the wireless.

Well as I said in the original message, it asks him for a username and password.

Sorry, what does? You implied the router asks for a password, which it would if you went to http://192.168.1.1/, or whatever the router address is. This is admin/sky.

Else, providing the lights are on, going to www.google.co.uk or any other site should work.

From Sky's site:

4. Check that the grey telephone cable is connected to the Broadband box and that the other end is connected to a phone point through a microfilter.
5. Check that the black power adaptor is connected to the Broadband box and that the other end is plugged into an electrical socket with the power switched on.
6. If you are trying to connect by ethernet cable, check that the ethernet cable is connected to the Broadband box in one of the LAN ports. The other end should be connected to the network port on your computer.
7. The green power light and the port number on the Sky Broadband box should now be illuminated.
8. Navigate to www.sky.com to check you have internet access.

If you're connecting by wireless, and this is the 'password' you're talking about:

These are located on the bottom of your Sky Broadband Box, as well as on a separate card included with your Sky Broadband setup guide.
Your SSID and Network Key will be unique to your Sky Broadband Box, and use the format: SSID – SKY12345. Network Key – ABCDEFGH.

Would probably connect with a cable and change the SSID and key if it was mine, to be honest.
