i don't think sky plus will work without a subscription, but the normal sky digital will, unless you want the really obscure channels (turner classic wresseling for the win

) or you can't get terristrial your better with a freeview digi-box.

Damn, they wanted a decent pic with recording.

Looks like the best way would be a custom media box and sky digital.

Would be a great present for them, as they are still messing about with two vhs video recorders, missing programs, and overwriting lots of stuff by mistake.

Add in the fact that when theres rain or wind or both, the TV picture is shocking, and the sound takes on a crackle to the sway of the trees, and you can see they are insane and I want to help cure them.

no, you get much more than standard analogue, however the channels are worse than what you get on terristrial digital (freeview)

update

Engineer phoned at 9am this morning to say that he will be coming out between 1 - 5 today.

note: this is after me telling the customer agent on the phone that i would NOT BE AVAILABLE in the afternoon on the saturday. (work)

Utter muppets...... :mad:

roll on next week..... (if this goes on to 7 days then i'll try and claim it back as it works out at £10 each week not including telephone calls)

ninja edit: spoke to a complete muppet just now. didnt really know what he was doing.....

lots of "uhhhh hold on a second" "uhhhh" didnt know his own agent id number strangely...
(usually if my call was a test call i would ask for the agent id after the call: used to work in a couple of callcentres)

hes passing me over to a supervisor apparently...

spoke to an equally incompetent supervisor Damien Martin or something... explained at least 3 times that i wouldnt be available. So have to reschedule for an engineer to come out.

sky is one of those where you either get some one who will go out of their way to help you, or someone who hasnt a clue what they are doing.

I had to ring them last week as i was having problems with Sky Movies 7 pic & sound breaking up (every other channel worked fine put not SM7).

Ran them up spoke to some indian wooman who 90% of the i couldnt understand.

"Im having problems with Sky Movies 7 as the picture and sound keep breaking up"

"Channel 7 ok sir"

"No, SKY MOVIES SEVEN"

"Which channel is that on sir"

"307"

"Channel 3 i will check for you sir"

ohh FFS - in the end she put me through to someone who spoke and understood english.

I worked in a callcentre for 3 years, and the only "number" we had was to log on to our phones, which meant nothing to anyone, and is not something we would give out to the general public.

Yeah, having actually worked at Sky, they don't have 'agent id numbers', but they do have names

It means something as it can identify agents.

In the call centre depts I have worked in its generally accepted that if someone wants to identify you, you'd give your name or your phone login/agent ID if you didnt want to give out your name.

In the call centre I worked in, the team leaders couldn't even associate a login ID with an agent, so as I said, a phone login doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Yeah - it's under the umbrella of 'The Sale of goods act'. In that items bought must "last a reasonable amount of time" - anything upto six years. So basically all the extended warentees are a load of rubbish.

There is also EU law that gives explicit minimum two year guarentees aswell.

I've used the sale of goods act to get a digital camera replaced that failed after about 20 months, it wasn't easy but I got my camera replaced, and upgraded too, in the end.
