Sky Q problems (Mini box)

Surely I am not the only one suffering major problems with the mini box?

When it works its good but i cannot go more than 3 days without it having lock ups of some sort.

Eg try to turn on and simply no response forcing a remove power off and reboot.
Or Starts up but EPG is totally blank, cannot select any TV channel but can still play any recorded media, forcing a remove power and reboot to cure.
Or on start up I can see an active mini preview showing last channel selected BUT rest of the screen is totally blank / black empty. Forcing power off and reboot to cure.

Last phone call to report issues the guy i spoke to was not even going to log it as an issue until i insisted.

He had me update to latest firmware saying he had no reports of issues after doing this Ha Ha.

I keep trying updating the firmware in the hope they have fixed the issues, unfortunately not yet it seems.

Personally I am seriously peeved at as they say paying premium price for a premium service.

I can feel a phone call coming (again) on cancelling everything down to the bare minimum.

The sky Q silver itself is good and no problems its the damn mini box!
But i simply am not prepared to continue paying silly money for a service that does not work as advertised!

When I am working away and get it in the ear from the wife asking why its not working again i seriously question why I have it at all tbh.

The installer when installing mine set the power saving to active on the mini, if yours is set to Eco it could be causing some problems? Or, turn the power saving off.

Most of the problems i've read about online seem to stem from the power option, and whether the Mini is using WiFi.

Change the power saving mode and get it wired, then see how it plays.

Our installer specifically said to set all our boxes to Eco mode rather than active to reduce problems. They are working on software updates and its pretty new tech for Sky so they are ironing out the kinks. There are also problems with their software and some Sony TV's. We had them out two weeks ago to add two additional boxes so we are running 3 mini boxes and the main box.

I posted something similar in the main Sky Q thread. I'm having the exact same problems as the OP. I phoned up yesterday and explained everything and was told it's a common fault and that a new update was coming out on the 15th that should fix this and in the mean time they're not charging me for the mini box until it's fixed.

Me too problems with losing connection. Changed my virgin to 5ghz channel other than 36 and the mini boxes now work. Channel 36 is used by sky q so if your router is tuned to 36 change it!

Is there no way for the feed for the mini box to be sent over the existing Wi-Fi rather than the main box creating a hot-spot?

I've got a nice fast AC router that works best on 36 so I'd rather keep it on that

Phone call resulted in my being refunded Mini box costs since first date of logged complaints.
So if you do log a complaint make sure they do actually log it.
Plus seems there is a 20% discount currently on TV deals.

I got my refund back dated. I called a few days ago but they've credited me from the day my Sky Q was installed.

there is no monthly fee for the mini box. so you're getting a huge discount of nothing there

Actually there is part of the overall fee that is taking the place of the old separate multi room fee, so yes they can drop the monthly charge slightly, if they choose to.

Back to main issue on this thread, my system was dropping connections loads and very unstable, so I just hard wired both minis and the main silver box and have not had a single drop out since.

I also found putting all boxes in eco mode stopped all my dropouts. changing the wifi channel also was good though.

Also no you definitely cannot send the video data over your own wifi even if hardwired.

Interesting, I have the 'blank TV but recorded items still work' issue sometimes on both minis here and put it down to poor wifi on one, and the fact I'm using the powerline option on the other (and it definitely uses powerline - no wifi or cat5 where it is placed).

I've got 20% off as I rang to complain that the fibre speeds were way below what their checker promised at signup - which I told them would be the case but the guy insisted I signed up and tried it anyway - and it was only an extra £3/month over the normal ADSL.

The main Q box and mini wifi hotspots however is pretty stable and to be honest apart from the above issue, the system works better than I expected given that I use its wifi, ethernet and powerline options and also have existing Tp-Link powerline adaptors plus a largeish Sonos install (which uses Sonosnet, and if I remember I manually set the channels so nothing overlaps).

man the q minis have seriously blocky picture in dark scenes. Was trying to watch the first episode of hunters on syfy on the mini and macroblocking from the way they encode the video over the internet is awful. The mini is really not worth using as a second box at all until they increase the quality and bandwidth of the encode.

Well the 15th has come and gone and still no fix for the mini box issues. This morning I wake up and the mini box will not connect to the Q box. Tried restarting the Q box twice and the mini box about ten times and it still won't connect. I've been having loads of mini box problems in the past month but whenever I rebooted it the problems were gone, at least for a day or so but I can't for the life of me get the box to connect this time.
