*** Sky Q Thread ***

my current contract is finishing next month month, which was £35 for complete package + (free sky Q as I had an LG OLED offer). I submitted cancellation couple of months ago. Today i chatted online and asked if there any deals i could stay so they offered me this deal.

So, It would appear that I was just unlucky with my on-going issues. The new replacement box that was provided on the 2nd engineer visit was faulty. It had broken whilst updating to the new software. Engineer said whilst not common, he has had a "few" recently with the same issue. New main box fitted and updated to latest version. So far so good.
For those that care about this sort of thing, the newer boxes come with a power brick, rather than internal power supply.

Is the friends and family deal time limited? My bill just doubled this month so presume its come to an end. Need to ring them and cancel at these prices.

All deals are time limited, you never keep the original pricing. Everytime my bill goes up I have to play the I wish to cancel game and get it cheaper again.

OK cheers, I'll get them rung when I get home tonight. Direct debit came out this morning and it was a bit of a shock haha!

If you have the my sky app you can keep an eye on future bills, I think it predicts up to 5 or 6 months and will also show the month you Bill goes up to "list" price. Just make sure to cancel 60 days before this date that way you don't incur the higher cost. :)

Nice tip, thanks.
I rang them and they took off a few packs to get the price back to what I was paying. Although logging onto the app it says I am losing HD, which I specifically said I didnt want to lose as I have a Sky Q box and a 4k telly. Guess I need to make another call!

So earlier today I gave it a go. Apologies for the butchered look of the cable! it was the only way I could get it to go into the AV port due to the lip on the bottom edge of the mini box.

As you can see, the cable isn't quite in. This was the only way I could get a picture and sound and not that it wont fit, this does however confirm that sound and video is conveyed over this method. I'm now left wondering on this basis if Sky have their own "special" cable that works with this to once again get it set that you must use their cables, shame this isn't supplied with the box then. Shame really, I'd like to put a Sky box in the kitchen but the TV in there is only 15" so any form of HD would be pointless, and also the fact that it doesn't have HDMI.

Whilst I can live without Sky in every room, it is a bit of an annoyance to be stuck with Freeview especially after the Sky advert of continue to watch something where you left off in another room. Damn you legacy devices!

I feel like I'm repeating myself -

They do have a dedicated cable for that port, it's supplied with the mini. If it's installed by sky they take them after install if you go down the self route you get to keep it. However I threw mine out as it's obsolete in this house.

I get what you mean and I'll probably get around to ordering at some point. The biggest concern I had was regarding the cable, you have clarified from experience that you had one in the box, fair enough that clears that up. Before that though I'd done research on it and in various threads on the Sky forums it contradicted what you had said. Some saying that it wasn't supplied with the self install boxes and that the installers carried them in their van, others saying it had to be requested on ordering, I'm sure you can imagine I didn't want to order the box and find that I couldn't use it as I didn't have the right cable.

Fair enough, my mini arrived in a sealed box and the cable was in a dedicated compartment under the mini, I assume from that that all units would have the cable. I wish I had kept it now as I would have happily sent it to you :)

Ah man, the Black Friday deal is exactly what I wanted. I have everything in the package but cinema at the moment for £47 and I want cinema but don't want to pay more than £55 for it all. Then bam, the black friday deal is exactly that! Just signed up a month ago too. Gah.

Yeah, classic tv offer only for new customers. I'm still thinking about cancelling sky, but id deffo sign up for sky Q at that price.
