*** Sky Q Thread ***

Three boxes in total at the same time, as well as a tablet device.

Your Silver box always counts as one of the boxes though, so two Minis.

So if i have 1 Silver and 3 Mini's i can only watch on 3 boxes but one has to be the Silver? Can i not watch on 3 Mini's when the Silver is not being used?

I have 8 TV's in my house where normally 4 or 5 are in use at the same time, does this mean i will need 2 Silver's?

A friend of mine says he's spoken to an engineer friend of his who works for Sky and he says that the WiFi connection is strictly between the main Q box and the mini - ie. NOT through your own WiFi!?!?

Does this sound right? I'd have thought you would have to run it through your own router!?!? (in my case a Netgear Nighthawk)

As I said previously, it's perfectly sensible if you think about it.

If they relied on using your own Wifi, they'd have to deal with coverage issues, DHCP servers and addressing etc etc etc, not to mention what if you don't have Wifi at all?

By creating their own private Wifi network they avoid all of these issues and can set the system up in isolation and independently of any existing networks.

Of course wired is still far preferable, as you said later on in this thread. Still can't seem to get a clear answer as to how easy it is to replace the Wifi with Ethernet connectivity on both main and mini boxes after the installers have left. Anyone actually done this?

Starting to get itchy feet but wary of ordering now in case there's a decent new customer offer round the corner, what do people reckon?

I priced it up a week or two ago (Q Silver + Sports/Movies, no broadband/phone) and it was £84. The same is now showing as £88.50, what gives there? Does that already include the June increase or something?

What's the average lead time on installations?

Technically, yes. But as far as I'm aware you can only have one silver box per sky account and one sky account per household.

And also my understanding is that you can only 2-3 devices can watch different channels at any one time? Not sure how it will work with 4-5 tvs.

Also..

8 TVs?!?!?!
"Wow you must be rich."

Cookie who can guess which movie that quote comes from :D

BTTF.

Anyone with 8 TVs where 4/5 are in us at any given time really needs to get out more ;)

Woohoo just got my £99 discount. Had to ring them as online chat cannot do it. Looking forward to Thursday even more now :)

Is the Sky Q interface in 4k?

8 TV's is a lot but when you have 1 in each of the 4 bedrooms, 1 in the lounge, 1 in the TV room, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the gym/garage they just add up!

Only the Sky Q silver box will handle 4k when UHD channels come along. They asked about my HDMI cable which does 4k and they didn't change it. We'll have to see how it's done when they announce more.

Yeah, was just wondering whether the actual interface is in 4k or 1080P.
