*** Sky Q Thread ***

Oh also just checked and I am on the latest firmware version this morning if that picture above is anything to go by. :)

I really like Sky Q when it works, but on my mini's I can probabably watch for 10 minutes then I get the error and I can't watch anything unless I go and unplug everything...

I've re-set it all, re-setup everything always the same and I use a
ASUS RT-AC87U AC2400 Router which is a good and not cheap router.. I can connect to my wifi from the bus stop over the road so it is not a wireless distance issue.. super frustrating and not sure what to do!

:(

If you are using your own router you need to lock the 5ghz channel to 36 to get the minis to use the 5ghz network, if you don't do that it will only use the 2.4ghz band and you will get dropouts

I think it is locked onto 36 but I will check that now.

:) Thanks

It was set to Auto I think, I've put it to "channel control 36" .. hopefully that helps.

In fairness when looking at the router displaying what was what... all 3 sky boxes displayed channel 36 anyway but maybe they were jumping around.

I have homeplugs, I was tempted to "wire" the system up.. but was wondering if you can wire the main box via homeplug then still connect wireless with the minis

also wirless mode Auto or N only you reckon? on 5ghz

The mini boxes will connect to channel 36 but you also need to lock it in on the router to utilise the 5ghz band once the router is locked to 36 it should be fine.
You don't need home plugs as the skyQ box and the minis have it built in, you just need to activate it in the service menu

What so if the sky box's are plugged into mains they act as homeplug? or do they need ethernet cables?

I have a few good homeplugs if needed and cables :)

yes, router is now locked to 36. :)

Not really when you think you have to pay £21+ for Sky Sports on BT.
Sky have got BT over a barrel so for them to charge extra for BT Sport is probably a coup.

If you want BT Sport in HD on multiple boxes on Sky then it's about £33 a month which is way more than Sky Sports costs on BT.

BT also virtually give it away to their broadband customers and allow VM to bundle it with their XL TV package. Basically BT are at war with Sky and are price gouging them compared to other providers. The sports battle between BT and Sky is just driving up prices and is no good for the consumer at all.

No just plugged into the mains, go into the service menu on all boxes and activate powerline and then switch off wifi and they work fine

Before everyone gets too excited about that firmware:

Just to confirm, there is no active software update rolling out at the moment.

We will let the Community know should that change.

From the official Sky forum.

Just to confirm, we still can't be bothered giving you any information whatsoever and there might eventually be an update which might fix some things but don't hold your breath

Why would Sky publicise it's software update plans?

Higher picture quality my butt, I was eager to have a look at this new sky picture quality and the compression is even worse, I have a recorded copy of American ultra from movies premier and it takes up 6gb of disk space I have just downloaded the same thing this morning and the disk space taken up is less than half at 2.9gb, more smoke and mirrors from sky again I see.
