I've been on Sky broadband for about 3 years now and have the old grey DG834 Netgear router.

The wireless range on it is absolutely abysmal as are the wired transfer speeds so I'm looking for something new.

However the one issue I have is that should I buy a non Sky router, Sky Anytime will cease to work on the HD box.

Is there anyway round this?

Having a non sky router will not affect you watching Sky anytime+

Well having already tried a brand new Netgear last week I can with absolute certainty say Anytime+ does not work.

Ive also tried an old DLINK Ive got here and it didnt work with that either.

Well then there must be a problem with certain set-ups.. i was intrigue so tried anytime+ last night before bed and started watching a few docs and a move and they all works perfectly with my netgear DGN 3500

and just to add, newer connections are set to MER and that's why it doesn't work. If you can get a different router and get it connected via PPOE then it will work fine, but if not....then it won't work properly and nor will a non Sky router. I can't use a non Sky router, I just get no IP address from the network, although I've not bothered trying to spoof the MAC address as I have no need, the supplied router does me fine

you cant... the router is yours and only carries a 12 month warranty... when mine went wrong after 12 months i had to pay 25 quid for the replacement.

Unlucky, had my sky router (sagem) for around 16months, the Upnp pretty much stopped doing anything, emailed sky saying the router was junk and I may as well leave to go to another ISP and use my own router. 2 Days later had a phone call from sky basically asking to confirm my name and address and ended the call with 'a new router is on its way to you now'. Another 2 days later a d-link router arrived via courier...

So OP, the moral of this story is bitch to sky and say you are planning to take your custom else where, you never know they might send you a free replacement.

+1 for that....sometimes you need to put your foot down and bitch or complain till they sort it...or if you are getting nowhere then leave and get a new router from your new ISP
