Sky+ to Pc

New software coming to HD and newer sky+ boxes is an improved EPG mostly, not too sure on other details.

The menu has going to have a video on the corner of the channel you were previously watching or whatever you highlight.

With regards to ffw and rw, thats a tough one at the moment, hopefully sorted soon but most of it is down to the mpeg compression.

Sorry to be rude but are you on crack?

If you worked for sky you will know the sky+ doesn't have an svideo output.

Some may do, but not in use.

Like the e-sata port which is already on the back of the HD box which is not currently in use.

Got to worry about the USB port which has been there for the past 4 years first.

I hate to do this but it does have a S-video output and it does work...

I did this a couple of months after I got Sky+ (My Sky+ box is a Pace Sky+ V3: Interactive Card slot to lower left of centre )

All I did was connect s-video cable to the Sky+ box and then the other end to my X850. I may have had to enable a setting but I think it just worked straight off.

It took me a while to find a program that actually excepted a VIVO input but finally I found one and it recorded as well.

Quailty wasn't as good as RGB scart I will admit but it is a verrry cheap way of getting any program off your Sky box.

Im in Vista64 atm and this doesn't seem to pick up the VIVO on 2900XT on anything I chuck at it which really quite annoys.

Anyone got any programs they can recommend then I will gladly give it a go as my s-video cable is right beside me.

This was at least a yr and a half ago I did this so if Sky have turned off the s-video somehow by one of their poo updates then I do apologize but I have 100% done this.

Cheers, Doug.

I've use the s-video output from a basic Sky Digibox for years and have great quality. The SKY+ boxes with s-video output should be the same (I guess you can only record from the single tuner that is showing on the TV).

You have 3 options for connecting to a PC
1. Composite - via a SCART to composite adapter (3 phono)
2. S-video - via s-video output of Sky+ box.
3. S-video - via a RGB SCART to s-video powered converter (£30+) and SCART adapter.

(2) is the best quality and easiest choice.

You have 2 options to received into PC.
1. VIVO or a cheap TV card. Not great quality as all encoding is done via software
2. Hardware encoder PVR card (e.g Hauppauge PVR-150 @£40ish). Great quality, accepts s-video input and uses virtually no CPU.

(2) is best choice though costs.

This is for live TV, I assume it is clear that recorded programs cannot be copied directly from the drive but can be played via the COPY option and recorded on the PC using the above (I've not tested that the s-video works for this as only used to copy to VCR via SCART).

Most good PVR software supports the above setup and also provide functions to automatically change channel etc. (with right hardware) to allow full unattended recording. I use GB-PVR - great software, but then do you want to turn your PC into a HTPC PVR or just copy Sky recordings across?

Hope this is of some use and I've not missed your point entirely!
