Flat roof ?
just an idea but loads cheaper to get triple glazed flat units rather than a lantern

But don't lanterns look so much better and have like less problems with rain water and moss sitting on them!?
My proposal is get a big window as it is a north west facing garden and super cold at the back of the house. Daylight would be very crucial
I'm thinking 1.5m X 2m or 1m x 2m but this is still open to debate
kitchen/diner/living room
single storey rear ext.
yes I agree with that too!
the window I have been looking at is almost £2,500 damn but it looks amazing!
My extension is 4m x 7m and I put 3 x 1m x 1m Velux domes spaced equally in the roof. They let in a lot of light and make the room very bright. I'd make sure you add some form of blind to allow you to cut the light out when needed, such as people sleeping over or movie nights.
Aye, here's a picture. I havent got any blinds yet, the velux one's are a few hundred quid if you want the electric remote control one's.

What is your total build cost? If you want wow factor you need to invest significant percentages in key areas!
£1000 per square meter is pretty much dream territory in my experience, or are you building it yourself to a very standard finish?
Or have you already got a few quotes from builders for it?
I think you really need to get a handle on your costs/budget before worrying about the size of roof lights.
The 'going' rate of extensions nowadays are between £800 and £1300 per square meter in the London region. Everything is expensive here including labour!!! All quotes I got where in this region. The cheapest is not always the best
If I was building it myself do you think the building costs would be that high?
the only time I've seen extensions come in at 1000 a square meter were self builds, never seen any using a contractor come in at that - have seen many quoted around that figure and then when it's properly priced its no where near - have you got a full spec/foundation design etc in place or are you trusting contractors to put their finger in the air?
