I am with Sky broadband, on there best package right now. I am having a fair few problems with them. They include 'Sky Go' and 'Sky sports online' with my TV package. This is USELESS, I try to watch sky online and all it does is buffer, my football feed ends up about 20 minutes behind. It will play some video and then buffer and keeps repeating this action. I am VERY lucky to actually get to watch a match from start to finish with NO delays. I have phoned these but monkeys about this problem and and a different problem before now...there answer was 'We are going to have to slow your connection because as it is fast and your PC can't use it all, it is getting stuck and slowing you down'...YES, they actually said that! They want to charge me £50 to send an engineer to 're set up my broadband'.

I am getting thoroughly cheesed off, and to make it worse, I always get people who can't speak English.

So, OCUK, what can I do, other than leave, which is not possible for another 8 months...

post your router stats. I'd be making sure that the line and wiring are fine before going any further and your router ststs should tell us that. If the problem is your internal wiring then we can sort that out...

What stats are those?

Also, I am currently getting ~5 Meg down, at one point I had 12...

still points to a line problem then...
got a sagem router?
If yes, then you need to goto

well noise margin is a bit high, so is attenuation. Have you tried plugging directly into test socket, disconnecting all your home phones and seeing if that improves things?

it might not improve straight away...it does however appear you've got perhaps a line problem. When you pick up the house phone is there any noise? If so, ring Sky and tell them your having problems making phonecalls...don't mention broadband but tell them it's making voice calls difiicult. Should then get it sorted...

I changed providers as I was having the same problem you are having with Sky Broadband. I used O2 afterwards and my connection speed doubled instantly and was perfectly reliable. O2 phoned me nearly every day for a week to check I was totally happy with the connection.
I have now been told I can have fibre optics and I'm considering going back to sky as I miss the Go services but not sure I can put up with there useless customer support.

My house phone has broken...lol...will try and find the old corded phone...

there will always be people who experience problems...on the whole Sky seems pretty good though. I still believe that you'll be ok if we can get down to the problem and sort it

Your a member of a very good forum, why not save the hassle of phoning them and ask for help here.

First post your line stats,
Then bring the router to your main socket and access
The test socket. Still crap buffering and slow speeds then sky will
Send an engineer free. otherwise they will charge.

Simple as that.

Personally mate I would wait.

If infinity is available int he new place, Sky is releasing theirs in April.
No throttling, no blocking pages, no traffic management, No FUP.

And would probably be cheaper getting an entire package from one company

Not really, SNR drops in the evening and overnight so will probs be 5.5 later.

Attenuation is based on line length, without knowing how far from the exchange he is how can you say that?
