Skylake Clockspeeds and benchmarks!

The whole range of asus z170 boards to have over clocking sockets with extra pins?

http://www.kitguru.net/components/m...1151-o-c-socket-on-new-intel-z170-mainboards/

Strange move. I though asus would just fit them to their high end boards to differentiate them from the lower end

Judging by the X99 OC socket, it's purely a marketting gimmick IMO - only those running insane volts through their CPU when cooling with LN2 can see any benefits. So useless for 99%.

I'll still get a Asus board, regardless, though this is mainly due to build quality, the industry's most comprehensive QVL, reliability and well laid out UEFI etc.

This seems like the way to go, get hold of everything you can now, at least that's my plan.

I'd like to get my DDR4 in advance, but I'm a little apprehensive at the apparent lack of mATX z170 boards that have been shown, as I'll definitely be building in an mATX shell.

Has anyone heard anything about mATX z170?

The mATX boards don't seem to be to popular anymore. From looking around there don't seem to be any coming out with the launch but rather further down the line. I'm personally going for a mitx board with the Asus Gene as it stall has lot of features on it.

btw Isnt skylake MBs supposed to offer ddr3 support? got some decent ddr3 ram Id like to keep once I upgrade.

There will be some DDR3 motherboards for Skylake - though they'll only support DDR3L - which is low voltage DDR3 (1.35V).

If your current DDR3 is normal voltage stuff, then I think you're out of luck.

That really sucks, I hope there is at least one...

mITX is nice but only two DIMM slots and a single PCI lane doesn't offer the option to build an extreme PC really.

Is buying z97+4790k a bad option right now? Will their prices drop?

Oh sorry I missed that.

Never heard of ECS, are they good?

That X99 board looks sexy as hell - especially as I am after an all-black theme. I fear for my wallet with an X99 build though, especially with a newly released mobo from EVGA.

ahh just checked mines 1.6v so that wont work for keeping the ram

Yes ECS are good, ordered ECS K7S5A Socket A motherboard back in 2001 for my uncle. Really very impressed build quality and stability, still worked 10 years on until uncle switched to laptop and sold off desktop PC in 2011.

Lots of UK retailers stocked ECS motherboards as it was very popular 10 years ago and ECS is 5th largest PC motherboard manufacturer in the world for years but however ECS pulled out of UK market years ago is a mystery to me.

Sexy packages.

Odd huge packaging for a CPU with no cooler.

HD Graphics 530? Sound like a massive downgraded over HD Graphics 4400. :p

Intel should called it HD Graphics 6300!

has there been much listed about the speed of m.2 on these new motherboards?

i see some have 2x m.2 slots but i would like to know the speed
are they still going to be very limited on lanes?
