Skype down (it really is)

Surely you have another means of conducting meetings / interviews and not just Skype?

Easier just to postpone things. The interviewee didn't have a Google+ account making google chat harder. Facetime doesn't allow multiple connections, at ;east it didn't the last time we looked, and none of us have facetime accounts.

We could call but it is much nicer to meet face to face, and for the interview we sometimes will write stuff on a white board, or get the candidate to sketch something on paper (or we will).

Been down for a day and my team speak blew up as I put it out there for people to use so they can carry on communicating while Skype is down :)

And this is why you should host your own video conferencing :)

Send the interviewee a link and a passcode, they can then join on a tablet, mobile phone, laptop (basically anything with a mic and camera).

I use Skype to support my mother, who's 200 miles away and sadly well down the road towards dementia, and it was only yesterday that I realised how dependent we'd both become on Skype and it's ability to accept incoming calls without any input from my mother.

Fortunately Google hangouts came to the rescue, set it up at both ends via Teamviewer.

From what I saw it wasn't actually down, it was perpetually showing everyone offline and trying to connect but everyone I spoke to could still talk to each other.

Half of our US team couldn't get online through the client on any of their devices, some where online on mobile, but couldn't do PC/Laptop.

I was able to speak directly to most people, and a few of the group channels I was on, but unable to send messages to other channels.

And I couldn't dial our works 0800 conference number through Skype either.

It was all over the place lol.
