Skyrim breached 2Gb vram@1080p.

You work for the newspapers lambchop?

Or do you just enjoy pedantic posting?

No point in 'quoting' what makes you look correct, quote it all and tell me it's wrong:

You don't get vanilla titles that have the size of textures that's sitting in my Skyrim, period.

2Gb is more than enough@1080p so far, as I said turn the settings down if/when needed.

A mixture of unoptimised/large textures is the cause of why it's going above 2Gb, it doesn't require anywhere near that amount of vram when you install vanilla Skyrim so it's in the users hands to where the vram use totals out.

As andy pointed out:), the aim of the post was to inform that you can breach 2Gb in Skyrim, remember folks the thread is called:

Skyrim breached 2Gb vram@1080p

Not:

Chuck your 2Gb gpu in the bin because it runs out of vram@1080p

Which is wrong. Skyrim doesnt breach 2GB VRAM. Your heavily modified version does.

The game that breached 2Gb vram@1080p is indeed called Skyrim, there is no hiding of the fact anywhere in the thread that it's a vanilla Skyrim.

Speaking from experience, was running skyrim an a gtx 580 (1.5gb ram). Afterburner told me that VRAM utilized ranged from 900-1548mb though I was experiencing a fair deal of choppiness after the 2k textures and some other mods. The choppiness always kicked in when the VRAM utilization was 1400+
I replaced the 580 1.5gb with a 680 4gb and ran skyrim with exactly the same settings.
VRAM usage ran from 900 to 2870mb according to afterburner.
This was at 1900x1200, no 3d or multi monitor.

I hit nearly 1.9gb in Crysis 2 on my 680 at 1080p, maxed settings, no mods.

That said, I get the feeling that even though it's using 1.9gb, its not actually using all of that memory and with lower amounts of vram, it can swap stuff around without much of performance penality.

Still, for my next card I will definitely be looking for something with 3gb plus memory, even with a 1080p monitor.

Okay, going along with this thread:

Decided on a 670. 4GB it is for the skyrim modding. Question is, which one? EVGA SC+ backplate or the KFA2? Same price, but wondering which will work out better.

So far, it looks like EVGA has the extra year warranty.

KFA2 has aftermarket coolers and a custom PCB which is longer so more likely to be stable when OCing. However, aftermarket cooling could pose a problem if I SLI'D in the future.

Which one?

Any specific reason other than being a brand name? (and maybe the warranty)

EvgaNick(Evga rep/staff) patrols the forum and helps sort out customers woes(that would be reason enough for myself as I never see any other gfx reps here).

Evga allows removal of the heatsinks without voiding your warranty.

Transferable warranty.

I say EVGA as the 670 is currently at the top of the 670's in 3DMark11 scores and the warranty and the customer support. I can only use my reference 680 as an example and can honestly say it is quiet. When I am gaming I can hear it (60% fan speed) but it is not overly loud.

Well ordering KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 4096MB next week as i hate stock coolers on cards, and also they are Uk based so warranty shouldnt be a problem.

I've seen once skyrim having some texuture problem. AB reports 1.9GB mem.
Just dawnguard + high resolution texture pack (the official one)
