Skyrim ...Is it any good ?

Not sure I'm feeling this game (or RPGs in general - Deus Ex was simply awful). Combat doesn't seem to be very satisfying either = / And I can't help but think melee doesn't work as first person.

My mate absolutely loved Oblivion and played it to death. He's find Skyrim a little too 'done this before', and as though not enough has really changed.

One of his first comments to me recently was
*frowns* 'It...I dunno, I really wanted to love it...but it feels....dated'

He also mentioned that whilst a lot of what is done is great; it's sometimes the 'love' that seems to be missing, the attention to detail. Things like your character not leaving footprints in the snow etc.

Conversely I never got on too well with Oblivion, but he thinks I might enjoy the setting etc of this one more.

Played oblivion, absolutely hated every moment of it so Skyrim has no appeal to me. I guess it must be good to most though as the majority of people on my steam friends list all seem to be playing it!

Once the design of oblivion became exposed all I could see where the seams in the game design both mechanically and artistically, every character sounded the same, every dungeon looked the same and every chest contained a subset of loot specific for my character.

So far skyrim has none of this and is a pleasure to play.

But Skyrim does everything better than Oblivion did!

I am enjoying Skyrim a lot more than Oblivion. I got bored of Oblivion quite quickly and never bothered playing it much or finishing it.

I'm hooked on skyrim though.

Why would you say this is? Is it the main storyline, better immersion, less tramping around?

I have money on a gift card which I might just use for this hummmm decisions decisions

Is it easy to follow though? With the Witcher 2 I stopped playing for a couple of weeks and when I came back I had no clue what was going on (I have a bad memory) Do u think Skyrim is like this or does it log everything in an easy to understand way?

Also is it easy to get lost on the map?

I'd not say it's easy to get lost, more easy to get distracted :D

It does make the quests very easy to follow and tell you where to go, it's all very simple and easy.

It's really a fantastic game, It's like Oblivion, but much better in every way.

I miss the days i could be excited about any RPG, in any form, i think i need to rediscover my love the genre, period. Too old skool i guess.

Thanks Tummy you have sold it too me (well you and all the reviews :D )

I have a 6870 I7 920 @ 4ghz and 6gb ram what kind of performance can I expect at 1920 x 1200 with as many graphics turned up as possible
Oh and I have trouble with DX10 for some reason so does it have a DX 9 mode?

All that and more tbh, for a start i woud say that the combat that was so clunky in Oblivion has been refined, i find it much more satisfying in skyrim especially sword and shield combat. Also the setting is better imo, though i am starting to think it is missing a big city like Imperial City. Basically every little niggle people had with Oblivion has been ironed out but the biggest thing is just the sheer amount of content, the enchanting, alchemy, jobs etc.

Someone said that the "love is missing" I think the exact opposite, the little touches in the game are what make it stand out, if anything it was missing from Oblivion and has been refound!

Also play the game before you say it looks bad, i think i is easily one of the best games i have ever seen!

bethesda have said its dx9 only (due to being a console port), and it only uses 1 core, no multi core support.

your pc will max it out EASY, it runs max on my friends 6850 with no judders at all.

One problem with skyrim is quite often a dragon or giant will wtfpwn you because you were too busy gawking at that amazing scenery or beautiful northern lights or amazing view from the cliff edge over a massive valley... etc etc.
