Skyrim ...Is it any good ?

What makes a big difference for me compared to Oblivion is that the dungeons etc have all been hand made. This is really important for my immersion in the game. With Oblivion I had no desire to trawl through dungeons because they had no personality.

hmmm, not quite sure how anyone could say Oblivion is not good. If you like RPG's then Oblivion is awesome.

Depends on the typ eof RPG though.

I've always loved story-driven RPGs, from Final Fantasy, to Baldurs Gate, to Mass Effect and The Witcher.

I never played the first Morrowinds, but I could just NOT get in to Oblivion at all. I played for many hours, but eventually gave up. The open-ended sand-box nature just didn't work for me in an RPG environment. No problem with sand-box in things like Just Case 2, GTAs and Prototype, but Oblivion just saw me wander around aimlessly and getting bored.

Fallout 3 managed to hold my attention for much longer, but eventually I gave up on it as well (possibly because I was sick of the brown post-apocalyptic setting).

This makes me think I probably wouldn't enjoy Skyrim, but at the same time I want to give it a try, but cannot justify the cashmoneyspend. :(

From what I have played so far it strikes me as the game I wish Oblivion was. Absolutely gorgeous graphics, an even larger world and more to do than I am sure I will ever need. (not that oblivion didn't have that last one too :) )

Get it and don't look back

Pretty much my thoughts on it. Oblivion just didn't grab me at all, from what I've seen Skyrim doesn't appear to bring a great deal more to the table? Not worth me spending £30 to find out. Might pick it up cheap second hand in the future if I can...

The post everythingsgonetotits landscape also annoyed me after a while - though I did finish Fallout 3.

Skyrim is stunning and I don;t think you'll get bored of the scenery. Just don't quest in the snowstormy areas all the time! :D

I'll be getting this for Xmas. Some quick questions....most of which I could search for, but I've been super busy at work and haven't got the time :p

How big is the game world compared to Oblivion?

How is the leveling different to Oblivion?

Can you just ignore the main quest and do your own thing, as with Oblivion?

From what I can gather, it doesn't need a major overhaul mod like OOO? I only started to enjoy Oblivion once I installed OOO....

Cheers!

About the same. It's large :) Everything is hand-crafted. No more generic dungeons with different interiors.

How is the leveling different to Oblivion?

Pretty similar to oblivion.

Yup.

Very enjoyable without mods. The SDK hasn't been released so we're yet to see anything particularly special.

Would you say this is a good assessment of the game? :D

1 Great Pyramid of Giza
2 Hanging Gardens of Babylon
3 Statue of Zeus at Olympia
4 Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
5 Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus
6 Colossus of Rhodes
7 Lighthouse of Alexandria
*New*! 8 Skyrim

It's very different - in the sense that its' been fixed :p

Now it isnt possible to 'waste' a level, or stats.

Every level up, you get to choose 10pt more Magic, Health or Stamina.

Along with that, you get to choose an increase up a pre-defined skill tree, such as upping your light armour value or 1 handed attack value by 20%. Shan't spoil anything with other, fancier options which are available ;)

Awesome. Not played much of it as yet, only got to the Golden Claw part so far so really near the start of things.

Is it worth getting?. If this sort of game is your cup of tea then yes - undoubtedly. It's like Fallout 3 with swords and dragons. :D
