Slacker on long term sick

If i somehow loose a leg or an arm then mabye i will snap, but nothing else..

How do you know? Do you honestly think that I thought I would get anxiety? I guess those of us who have had it or who are going through it cannot expect you to understand, lets hope you never have to go through it.

I know a few people who had the same attitude as you, they thought they were untouchable until their cicrumstances changed, such as losing their wife, kids, house but still having to pay for it all and pay for their own upkeep too, I bet they would rather lose a limb tbh

we got people in our office who are guaranteed to take time off work once a month others are more once a week type of people.

It is a huge annoyance because it creates more pressure on people who are working plus it makes me feel a bit jealous if they are faking it.
I've been working full time just over 2 years I've never rang my boss up complaining that I got an "upset tummy" or "headache" or "suffering from stress"

I have an exceptional and outstanding attendance record which I am very proud of
but it is only a matter of time before it gets destroyed.

My Bradford factor is 20 and that was only through having an operation which I took 4 weeks to recover

One of my colleagues is over 1k afaik , heheh

I cannot function without stress, it makes me better, faster, stronger and more determined... Without it i become lazy as hell.

Most people are like that, put pressure on them and they prevail...

The people that crack under the pressure, i couldnt care less about them

you are talking about the stress of every day life that is normal and healthy.

Stress is so often used these days in business by people and it's a relative/subjective term that to me is used incorrectly more often than not.

Absolutely. While generalising is always dangerous, I think stress is similar to the modern use of "back ache". Of course you have back ache... our evolutionary spines are still getting used to balancing on two legs.

The same thing goes for stress. Stress is definitely not a black and white issue, but it is a natural part of life, especailly the somewhat freaky kinds of modern life many of us tend to lead (compared to those throughout human history, where we tended to lead more socially balanced -- although tougher in many ways -- lives).

The aim is not to get rid of stress, because you can't. It's not like a headache. But, like back ache, it's very hard for doctors to look inside someone's head and tell whether they're genuinely messed up, or just dealing with the problem the wrong way. Either way, sitting at home is often the wrong thing for both back ache and stress.

Andrew McP

PS Before someone with a crumbling spine takes offence, I am not saying that all back ache is something you can work through. But I do know a bit about back pain and know that often I am far better off after a night at work than I am after a day sat on the sofa or at my desk. I think the same goes for stress. With so many people sat at home on sickness benefits now I think we know current treatment methods for all sorts of "illnesses" aren't working. Society's expectations have been distorted by that though, making some things "normal" when they shouldn't be.

Ah yes, the platinum87 we all remember. If you ever really do want some sympathy some time (and yes, it will happen), then please invite us all around so we can laugh at you.

Oh Platinum87. I imagine you are some kind of God and have never known the meaning of the word failure, You must be like 7 feet tall, built like a beast and be a multi billionaire driving around in your ferrari with girls screaming your name.

Or maybe a delusional child. One or the other.

Even if you are fine you must understand not everyone is and in a civilised world isn't too much to give a little help to those that need it and maybe in return someone will help you when you need it.

My sister had a nervous breakdown due to stress at work - she got three months off, and the doctor advised her to go for walks every day and do the things she normally enjoy in her spare time. Basically, all the activities that a perfectly normal and healthy person do.

Lying in bed feeling all sorry and morose? Some of you don't half have a daft idea of what it means to be off work due to stress. 'My brother's a doctor. Are you a doctor? No, didn't think so'

Stress and depression people find difficult to understand as it is not something which can be easily measured, of course this doesn't make it any less real than fractured leg. My dad was recently of work because of stress, yes it is a psychological condition but there can also be many different physical symptoms, one persons experience may be very different from the next. Absolutely anyone can suffer from these conditions.

You can't truly understand how debilitating it can be until you find yourself in that situation, yes there will be people who exagerate or use stress or depression as an excuse for getting out of something they don't want to do, but accusing someone who truly is suffering will make things much worse for them.

some people geniunley suffer from stress but it is a small minority. the others just take advantage and make all those who genuinely suffer looks like lazy slobs....
